Back in June 1969 I did a weekend camp at Longmoor and we were shown around the running shed and taken up to the O Gauge model railway which was controlled using real signalling equipment as can be seen in this film. I seem to recall one of the model engines was a Royal Scot but it was painted up in LMR livery. We spent most of our time firing weapons and were taken to the Parachute Regiment Trainasium at Aldershot and all of the maniac cadets from Bishops Waltham ACF went around it! I remember climbing the tower up the rigging and thinking: "It's a bloody long way down if you fall!" and stopping there.

I had to pay for a driving experience at a heritage railway to do what those kids are doing! And I was a lot, lot older than them too!

2:00 Is this loco still preserved? And hopefully behind a fence? Nice to see 'Gazelle' here too, and the Hunslets.

RockyRailroad Animation Some locomotives that we’re used on the LMR are preserved, Woolmer is at Milestones Museum in Basingstoke, No. 600 Gordon, a Hunslet Austerity named “Errol....” something. A lot of coaching and Goods stock that was previously owned by Longmoor is also preserved.

Like the way they clamber all over the static locos (tanks?) from 2.00 touching and prodding everything. Can't see the Bluebell letting you do that now .

I think that it is time for someone to reopen the Longmoor Military Railway as the first community run heritage steam railway reuniting all the preserved locomotives that resided at Longmoor, including the repatriation of J94 Errol Lonsdale from Belgium and WD 2-10-0 Longmoor from Holland as the first Transatlantic Open Air Military Railway Museum as a joint effort between the National Railway Museum in York, the National Railroad Museum in Wisconsin USA, the Heritage lottery fund, Heritage Railway Association and other Steam Railways and Museums in Belgium, Holland and France.

I used to live on Longmoor camp (7 Union Rise) 1966/68 as a boy, i often travelled to school in Liss on a steam train called "The Bullet", does anyone have any pictures of this train as i have searched but cannot find any, thanks in advance.

+bruce anderson My Dad worked on that train and tells me that it's the train in the Great St Trinians Train Robbery movie and another movie about the Indian railway, with Stuart Granger or someone like that Will ask him again for the wheel configuration so it will make it easier to identify.

+bruce anderson Correction; part of movie shot at Longmoor but will ask him if he has any other photos of the "bullet" as the only one I have is a close up of him on it; which I think my Mum took when he picked her up from Liss

+bruce anderson That was easier than I thought it would be. You caught my Dad's train alright; I thought so because I was born at Liss Grange and my first home was on the quarters at Longmoor camp and I was born 1965. The big engines are Gordon (600) and Kitchener (601), both 2-10-0 locos and there was a slightly smaller 2-8-0 called the Sir Guy Williams (400). Kitchener and Sir Guy were scrapped but Gordon went to the Severn Valley Railway and it looks like she is now part of their museum collection. I found photos of them by searching Longmoor Railway images on Bing.

I think its time that someone reopened the Longmoor Military Railway again this time as a working heritage railway run by the local communities in and around Longmoor.

This railway should be in situ now. The MOD has shifted to rail more. They need to continue on this path.

I think that the Longmoor Military Railway should be reopened as the first community run heritage railway with joint shares with worldwide railway groups from Holland, Belgium, America, France and Britain with the the former residing locos returning to Longmoor.
