President Barry II CE MultiNorm CB radio - repair & service alignment

This current model (2022) radio came in with no transmitted audio either on AM or FM or even in PA model.
With reference to the service manual & under the micoscope a 3mm lenth of copper burr was discovered to be across two SMT transistors. After removing the burr & performing a master reset of the software, normal operation was then possible.
After this, the radio was tuned up on the Maconi test set & produced 3.8W & full FM deviation of 2.2Khz average & peaking at 2.5Khz. The receiver has no adjustments & was/is doing 0.55uV for 12dB SINAD.
It's a shame this set wasn't returned under warrenty as it was a manufacturing defect.

Well done Richard. That was easy! Lesson learned for those playing at home is to do a more thorough inspection of the board under magnification for any issues. A good desk magnifier / phone with magnification all that’s needed - I take a number of photos & scroll around to see if they’re any things to note. I’m not sure why people put off a repair/fault find tbh reading the comments so far. Having menu driven service functions make things easier too. Ok, SMD components can be tricky but with a bit of practice / research one can replace with the usual techniques to a fashion. The spec seems quite good for this radio 🤔 I’m dipping in/out on the uniden / uniace 100 as I’ve mentioned before. Good to pick up some tips here - noting the speaker wires twisted on this radio to reduce noise. All the best 👍

Not a microphone, but the radio could have a fault wher PA is fine & TX audio is dodgy, Richsard, UK

I think these menu-driven sets are going to be killed by their owners trying to fix things that should have been done at the factory! Bring back the old style radios, at least there was a chance of fixing then, even if you could not get half the parts. Now with modern radios, not a hope, surface mount makes it almost impossible when they are that small. Just grains of rice, how they can make them so small beats me?
