Any chance the picture in picture can be bigger in future videos, it’s near impossible to see any detail on the iPad Mini. 👍👍

No, this mixer doesn't doesn't allow variable size. I think the thing to do is to switch to full screen from time to time. This is the snag. I go from a £5K broadcast quality mixer to a £600 model that youtube can recognise the HD format. The posh mixer was getting shoved into SD 480p quality as youtube couldn't work out the format. That tuned up very nicely and performs well on the test set. You mentioned as the radar was breaking through that it may have poor selectivity. How would you go about measuring that assuming you are talking about what is referred to as bleed-over? The is an adjacent channel power meter option for my Stabilock which sadly I didn’t opt for. Love the full screen picture and vastly improved resolution. The picture in picture is a bit to small. A shame if you can’t improve it but switching camera would work just as well. Regards Graham

I think you have the green Newnes CB radio servicing book by Mike Tooley. The selectivity test is outlined in there. It can easily be done with two signal generators, then a complex formula is applied to the results to give you the dogBiscuits figure. I must do a demo on that sometime. The only other time we've heard radar interference was on that Lucas ACB888 which I did as a Sierra Hotel One Tango set..and is! Richard

UK CB radio servicing yes I do have that book and it’s the best reference for UK CB. I will have a look at the test but complex formulas scare me. I’d certainly like to see it done as I think that’s a test that is well worth doing.

The UK regulations have changed now its not just the old 27/81 channels.

Yes, and I keep saying about the CEPT 40 which we got FM only in 1987, then the 2014 availability of AM & SSB on those 40 channels too. However, the fact remains that I can't use CEPT channels here & I've recorded tests on CEPT only tests several times when because of foreign interference at S5+ we've had to change channels several times in one test. I actually don't know anyone who uses/can use the CEPT channels! Richard

Would you rate the small CRT one N as a better set than these Richard?

We've not seen the 'N' version of the CRT one. To be honest I felt the Albrecht 6110 seemed the best version we've tested, though we have a new PNI & Moonraker here to look at & go through when time permits. The American President's were made by Uniden, it seems that none of the current offerings are & it looks to me like the the name has been sold on as I think all the President sets I've seen recently are Chinese. What strikes me is they cost 3 times other makes, and on the whole work worse. Richard

I cannot blame you enjoy your day in Skeg. How come your not interrested in SSB sets you are a radio ham so its not like your not familiar SSB and its advantages etc.

As far as amateur radio goes, I'm 90% 70cms FM, to such an extent I own the local repeater 7 miles away on a commercial site I pay for, GB3GR. I'm not interested in DX as an amateur. The other day I was talking to a guy in Sheffield over the repeater. He was using a Baefeng 888 1/2W handheld in his house & of course he was rightfully thrilled to be getting into a repeater 75 miles away. That's my kind of DX. I've had 9000 miles on 200mW CW on 14Mhz; that thrills me too. My 1964 Heathkit SSB transceiver works great on it's single 3.5Mhz band & there is no clarifier/ RIT control because the VFO uses good old tuning capacitors, so you just turn the main gtuning dial until it's correct. I would only be slightly interested if there was a UK legal multinorm SSB with vol, sq, channel knobs only. Back in the 80's & 90's when I was servicing SSB business radios, they had auto clarifiers. So it's the faff of driving down the road with a rig full of knobs trying to talk so someone at just 50% more range than FM...if that. In fact, I don't even know what channel is expected to be what on CEPT. No idea what calling channel is....if there even is one. I asked Offcom & they had no guidance on it either!! Richard

UK CB radio servicing hi Richard in terms of a calling channel on CEPT, some people (actually one individual) has tried to persuade (impose on) people that one of the channels should be a calling channel. Suffice to say that went down like a Boney M LP at Prince Philip’s birthday party. 73

yes, replacing the £5K broadcast mixer with a £600 barbie doll of a mixer has allowed the pictures we have to be recognised as HD by youtube, whereas the same pictures were being reduced by youtube to 480p max. Unfortunately the microphone input to the mixer clearly isn't expecting a pair of Shure SM58 microphones. To make it worse the mixer input is a silly 3.5mm stereo jack socket rather than XLR's I'm used to. So the mixer is flat out with the audio at +10dB, then in the editing I've had to boost the audio 10dB again. In order to use the microphone preamp we have here, I've had to order some different cables, so the snag should go away later on in the week. I expect the barbie doll mixer is expecting a barbie doll microphone too. Richard
