It's a proud american tradition. FDR smuggled weapons into europe and lied about it, then claimed that when the Germans sank the Lusitiania they were attacking a civilian target when FDR and american allies kept using civilians as meat shields when sending cargo, then FDR used that sinking as justification to go to war the American people had opposed. Kennedy tried to perpetrate a false flag operation to get the US involved in a war in cuba and tried to sweep it under the rug when it failed, backfired, and nearly caused WW3 (he gets a pass though since his assassination made him an icon in america, especially among liberals). LBJ fabricated the Gulf of Tonkin so he could ramp up the Vietnam war (previously an undeclared war for years). That's all without getting into the War of 1812, numerous banana republics and colonial wars that had justifications so paper thin they'd make bush blush, or the mexican American war. Bush just carried on the tradition set forth by his predecessors but we all pretend like hes the only one who did it since hes A: conservative and B: an unpopular Republican, even within the GOP. If only hed had the good sense of being a democrat, being more populist like Trump, or had the good sense to get assassinated hed be added to America's pantheon of hero worship like war hawks LBJ and Kennedy or if hed been better at scapegoating hed be worshiped like Trump

@President-Caliph Dhuku Drone program probably. But that's about it. No offense, but the fact that you think there was any kind of escalation of the Iraq war under Obama, or that the NSA spying program was a war crime, shows that you're pretty misinformed. I have a lot of disagreements with Obama's presidency but a lot of what you're saying just doesn't make sense.
@soccerguy3253 жыл бұрын
@President-Caliph Dhuku You sound very disgruntled. I have a million problems with the Democrats. Never in a million years would I be under the impression that they are all righteous and perfect, certainly not their presidents. But I call things as I see them. I hate Obama's drone program, and I hate how he began funding the Saudi-led Yemeni intervention, especially considering how it opened the door for Trump to make it even worse. But there was nothing illegal about the war against ISIS, or the intervention in the Libyan civil war. There's absolutely zero evidence to indicate that the intervention is what caused the country's downward spiral. In case you've forgotten, Libya in great turmoil when we entered. That country was headed for either revolution or endless civil war one way or another. It was the fact that the US and NATO had zero exit plan, and basically just peaced out after Gaddafi died without doing jackshit to maintain the country's infrastructure which is why the country's an absolute mess right now. In case you haven't noticed, Syria is also in shambles - probably worse shape - but there was no intervention there. Again, I'll hold every president accountable for their bad actions. And Obama had plenty. But I'm not going to be misguided about it.
@TheCatWrangler3 жыл бұрын
@President-Caliph Dhuku you sound exactly like my father. He has the exact same opinions, you guys would get along great, lol. I think I pretty much agree. No Child Left Behind has many issues but it did have some good ideas which were kept intact after Bush left office. It was at its most basic an attempt to set standards and basic metrics to measure education levels. There had been previous and similar programs under LBJ and Reagan since there were fears that education standards were too low and too poorly measured. Ironically the biggest issue after No Child Left Behind went into effect were schools manipulation the system to improve scores, which was the exact fear that had motivated programs like No Child Left Behind. Obama's improved Every Student Succeeds Act incorporated parts of No Child Left Behind since it actually had good motivation and some good ideas, and they fixed some of the flaws. I was in school when it first went into effect and not long after the size of my schools special ed class exploded and they started dumping kids with ADHD and similar issues, and even just normal underachievers into special ed alongside the kids with genuine mental disabilities, all likely done to keep those kids away from the standardized testing. It was kind of wild but i spent a little over a year in special ed because I had ADHD and only got out when it was proven that i was actually scoring above average in many areas, later found out they just assumed that my bad handwriting and constant fidgeting meant i was stupid.
@blah798311 ай бұрын
He was actually 100% right about the best methods to teach kids to read. “Balanced Literacy”, “Cueing method” and other ideas based off Mary Clay (well meaning, but very wrong) pushed by Lucy Caulkins basically promoted guessing over decoding phonetically. This makes kids look good in kindergarten, but fails them by late elementary. Bush’s program was against those methods, but he didn’t succeed.

Bush is a kinder man but I feel like he’s about the same as trump in terms of potus. Bush’s Iraq war killed copious innocent civilians, American and Iraqi, not to mention the destruction of infrastructure. Middle East destruction was continued by Obama and Trump. However, Trump’s open tendencies towards anti-democracy and his handling of covid 19 throws him quite down there in the presidential ladder.

I can promise you, as an American, that George W. Bush is still THE worst president of the new millennium. If we're going to talk about... well, anything really... Trump outperforms Bush. I actually tout Trump or Obama as the best presidents of the new millennium (which one you list as first depends entirely on your political leanings). Biden seems to be really trying to dethrone Bush, and those on the right would probably try to say that Biden is worse, but I disagree. But I guess we still have (maybe) 2 more years to see how he does.

I abhor how mainstream media has restored Bush's reputation after he exited as one of the most unpopular presidents. Let's get this straight, Bush and Cheney are war criminals, they started offensive wars against countries. Yes, even the Afghan war was an offensive war considering an insignificant terrorist group provoked the US and the US acted exactly as Al Qaeda had hoped it would. It started a war that resulted in hundreds and thousands of deaths in Afghanistan and neighbouring countries, something that Alqaeda could have only dreamed to do on its own. There is no justification for the Iraq war whatsoever as it was a war for oil, and even the strongest justification of the afghan war assumes that American lives are worth more than the lives of mostly brown people that were lost in the war.
