The outside antenna is solved here. Getting inside is an issue. Wonder how the small coax will hold up to being squashed by window? I have a radio in my truck but wife hates them in car due to installation of cable and there is no room in our Explorer. If I go on a road trip we will have a cb. In days gone by, I remember a radio that could be put in trunk or under seat and all controls were in the mike. Also once talked to a guy who had a hand held with a shakespear tied on that he held out the window. Could not believe how well that worked. Of course, I guess wind noise was an issue. On this set up shown I wonder if you can buy a replacement cable that just plugs in. As in past: always carry a spare mike. In this case a spare coax may be a good idea. Great video.🦇

I've got a 102" mag mount antennae like you demonstrated on your wifes' car(?) in the SWR video with the Cobra 75. I'm not sure how I'm going to mount it with my camper on the truck. I've got a 2006 F450 and the hood isn't flat to the sides where I was hoping to install it on the drivers side close as I could to the windshield on the side of the hood. Ideally I'd like to have an antennae on my campers roof so I'm probably going to have to get something else that'll work on the roof. I'm wondering what a back bumper placement is going to do to reception with all that camper in the way forward. Will I only hear behind me? I've seen that side roof bracket they use on campers but in my driving environment, that's going to last about a month on the outside and more than likely cost me money for the damage I do with it. I'll probably just install the radio in the truck and just see what happens when I put the antennae in various locations on the truck and camper. I'll need to figure out a disconnection point if it ends up on the camper. I do have that neat bluetooth mic so I can plug that into the 12v jack in the camper. I'm pretty excited about that! Parked at a rest stop hanging out in my camper with nothing but highway traffic right in front of me! Reminds me that I'll want to install the radio under the back seat because it's a crew cab. What's the effect of reception if I installed the 102" antennae on the camper roof back at like a 30 degree angle? Does it need to point up? Isn't "up" relative? I've already got an idea how to make that mount adjustable to be able to put the antennae straight up when I'm stopped, if that matters. And as long as I'm not keying the mic, I can listen all I want right? Since the SWR won't be matched for the reception testing. Sorry for all the stream of consciousness questions....But sometimes I don't know what I think until I see what I say!

The camper would certainly change the radiation pattern. I'd go with a shorter roof mount for that setup.

Well , I don’t like being obvious either . So that model of antenna looks good . But um , actually as close to center mass as you can get is the best if you wanna transmit . Receive ing is a no brainer . And I like the idea of doing as little damage to the roof of my car as possible . I have an antenna that recommended cutting a hole in my roof and running the coax over the head liner . And I’m like , nope , not going to happen . The only problem with magnetic mount antennas is water and dirt gets under them , cause ing a weakened ground to the vehicle body . But you just have to be vigilant , and clean your roof off now and then .

People don't realize that shortened antennas are usually very inefficient. A full size 1/4 wave antenna is about 108" and is efficient. Remember FM power is different than peek power things get hotter faster I wouldn't push no more than 10 Watts FM through it. If its rated for 50 to a 100 watts pep then rms power will probably be a quarter of that if that. It all depends on specs because looks can be deceiving it could be rated higher

It's a bit of a dance. On my old Uniden Washington I had the mic gain set to 8 out of 10 with my power mic to get the best sound and range.
