I miss this dork. And I mean that in the best possible way. He never cared about looking a little silly, a little goofy, a little awkward, but he did it with his whole heart. I was lucky enough to be able to shake his hand in the early days of his campaign. I think it was 2007 or 2008 and he'd stopped by a small high school near Denison, Iowa. He spoke beautifully and as he was coming down the aisle afterwards, he was turning left and right and shaking hands. I was just someone in the crowd who happened to be in the right place at the right time but when he shook my hand, he looked me in the eye and nodded and in that moment, it felt like I was the only person he wanted to be connecting with. It stuck with me and I was proud to cast my first ever vote for him. And then my second.
