I was 17 when Hawke won office. I'm glad I got to live through his time. What a classic statesman he was. Fraser, Hawke, Keating and Howard - those guys were giants. After that it's been such a rabble. What the hell happened? No good statesmen anymore. It's dark times.

Fraser and Howard are debatable, but Hawke and Keating are definitely right on the money when it comes to being great leaders.
@georgemoore7186

@@the_milkmann Howard was NEVER a leader, he was a sellout, he was against gun control until after the Port Arthur massacre when he did a 180 on Gun control, not because of the dead bodies but because Gun control was now popular, he would do what ever it took to get elected He encouraged East Timor to seek independence, knowing full well that a lot of them were going to die, not because he wanted the people to have a Democratic Government but because East Timor and an Oil and Gas shelf worth $billions that Gusmao promised to Australia if we backed them in their fight for independence......Howard sold it to China, Then Aceh another small country just like East Timor also asked for help to fight for their independence and Howard said NO.....was it just a coincidence that they didn't have an Oil and Gas shelf? Howard was a WHORE When Howard was Treasurer under Fraser as Prime Minister they resided over the worse economic times, the ONLY treasurer in history who had..... Double digit inflation Double digit interest rates and Double digit unemployment ALL at the Same time When innocent and desperate refugees Infamously called "Boat people" by the Right Wing racists were coming here, he told the Australian people that the mothers on the rickety old Boats were throwing their Children to the Sharks, demonizing them when he knew damn well it was a Lie....and it was a Proven lie after the election, before the Election he published Photos of the women handing their babies to the Coast Guard but the Coast guard was cut from the photos to make it look like they were throwing them into the shark infested waters, and like the MAGA crowd in America we in Australia have more than our share of rabid racists who want o believe LIARS He was such an ineffectual leader that he was the first Prime Minister in almost 100 years to not only lose the election but to get trounced....IN HIS OWN SEAT!! he was kicked out of Politics by the people closest to him, he represented a a heavily "Blue Ribbon right wing seat" and it went back to the Right wing at the next election, they just couldn't stand Howard In short Howard was a Low life, his idol was Bob Menzies(AKA Pig Iron Bob to Australian soldiers during WW11) "Pig Iron" Bob was in reference to him selling Pig Iron to the Japanese so they could make arms to use against Australian soldiers, hence they hated him....but that's another story
@georgemoore7186

@@matcole1975 Are you freakin; kidding? Do you know anything at all about Howard? Here are a few"facts" about "Little Johnny Howard" He was Treasurer in the Fraser Government and he is still the ONLY Treasurer in History that had...... Double-Digit Inflation Double-digit unemployment and.... Double-digit Interest rates .......all at the same time! When he was Prime Minister he campaigned heavily against Gun Control, (only scum does that)then the Port Arthur massacre happened and he did a180 degree about face, not because he changed his mind but because it became popular and would win him Votes..... More facts He claimed mothers were throwing their children to the sharks because he knew the racists in Australia wanted to believe "boat people were less than Human" and it would win him votes, he had incontrovertible evidence that it was untrue but said it anyway.....only Scum does that he led Australia into a War in East Timor to get East Timor their Independence......but as it turned out East Timor owned an Oil and Gas shelf worth $Billions, but if they are tied to Indonesia then Indonesia would own the Oil and Gas Shelf but if Australia helped East Timor with their fight for Independence, Gusmao would sign the Shelf over to Australia.....and Howard already had it sold to China, we got nothing out of it and neither did Eats Timor! Now maybe you could argue that Howard was being altruistic and helping East Timor gain there independence .....but here's the kicker..... Another Country in the vicinity of East Timor by the name of Aceh (pronounced aitch ah) also asked Howard for help in fighting for their independence, Howard showed them the door, he would not raise a finger to help them.......by coincidence they did NOT own and Oil and Gas shelf.....again Howard showed he was scum John Howard's hero was Robert Menzies....better known as "Pig Iron Bob" for selling Pig OIron to the Japanese so they could turn it into weapons and use it against Australian Soldiers.....is that scum or what? Like saying Ivan Milat was your hero, who would do that? Howard used Racism just Like Trump does....and I doubt either of them are really racist, they are worse, they use things like Hate and racism as a tool to get what they want!! John Howard was the only Prime Minister since 1929 to lose his own seat in an election and it hasn't happened since, the Aussie people are a little slow on the uptake but they finally had Howards number He even pretended to be "one of the boys" and embarrassed himself and Australia when he bowled a Ball in a Cricket match and it didn't even reach the other end of the pitch🤣🤣🤣 I could go on but you get my drift I encourage you to check it out, you will find I am right Keating's failure was that he over-estimated to intelligence of the Australian people, he gave speeches that they didn't have the attention span to listen to...and they didn't like him for it, he made people feel inferior........on the other Hand Bob Hawke was smart enough to treat the people like the slow thinkers they were.....and they never caught on cos he spoke their language I think you are confused with Tony Abbott, he was the one knifing everyone else in the back🤣🤣

@@jimh3588 It's probably the most important thing he has ever done. It's been incredibly valuable to all Australians. US health can't compare to other first world democracies in terms of costs and coverage. Paying a flat 2% levy in lieu of current insurance costs is cheaper for almost everyone and covers everyone. Healthier citizens = a healthier nation. You can have Improved physical and mental health, less disability, much cheaper drugs, maybe even a few less school shootings if you stop letting these corporations and the politicians they pay scare you with the word socialism.

Reagan wasn’t that bad for USA. But Hawke? He was the people’s Prime Minister. The PM position of Australia is very uncertain. Anytime, anyone from your own party can betray you what we’ve seen at least last 20 years. With all those shortcomings he started the Universal Healthcare. Rich businessman weren’t happy, but he did it. He was an alcoholic. Even he has the Guinness World record for drinking long long glass of beer in UK within few seconds. Despite of everything he did Universal Health Care. The Backbone of Australia

Everything people say about Hawke always seems to come down to style - his style. He could speak extempore, without notes, he liked a beer etc etc...Yet he really didn't do any more or less than anyone else would or could do. Liberal or Labor what else was he going to do but reinforce Australia - US relations? Hawke from the beginning was focused on nothing more than attaining the top job. Keating and Howard were both head and shoulders over him in knowledge and ability. Keating was always the brains behind that outfit. Overall Hawke was little more than a bum and what he did to Hazel exemplified who and what he was.
