I'm a UK truck driver and own one of these radios. I run a Uniden Bearcat Mic on mine (after the [remove noise cancelling] mod) and this radio kicks ass. I'm getting (in real terms) about 35 watts on Fm, but i want to emphasize is how good the 'ears' are on this radio. It has a great receive circuit which draws in weak signals. This combined with a good solid output has given me some great reports. Thanks for posting the video.

I'd be interested in hearing more about your Lincoln. I almost bought one. I run the McKinley with an RM Italy 203P. I actually use it mostly for the preamp, believe it or not! I compared the Grant and Lincoln about a year or 2 ago and thought I had landed on the Lincoln, but never pulled the trigger. I've got several Strykers, a few Cobras, and my President. My Uniden Bearcat 980 SSB and Stryker SR-955HP have both been in the shop for OVER A YEAR. (WTF?!)
@blainehartley91573 жыл бұрын
@@ZommBleed the Lincoln is great…I have a 955 as well but prefer the Lincoln hands down due to much better user experience….for instance the 955 requires going in a menu to change the step on the vfo where the Lincoln is easily done by simply pressing the channel selector….some people never notice this because they never move off the 11m cb band but if you plan to “surf” the bands or to use all the features of the radio I would take the Lincoln over the 955…the 955 does do a few more watts but I’ve gotten better compliments on audio with the Lincoln….I’ve tuned both radios myself and I have the Stryker running a bit less than most run it at around 65-70 watts….anything more than that and I find that the quality of audio goes downhill rapidly….as far as ssb goes they both are very stable and do well….the internal construction between the Lincoln and Stryker are very similar…the same company builds the boards and other than a few layout differences they are nearly the same….my gripe was having 2 of the “same” radios under different names but after running both over 2 years my Stryker stays on the shelf most of the time….the Lincoln is a more refined radio where the 955 gives me the impression of a glorified cb with chrome and lights….the Lincoln is more in line with a real amateur radio in my opinion….both radios are great when compared to other export style glorified cb radios but when put against each other I prefer the Lincoln but not necessarily because it’s better but because it’s a better user experience if that makes sense.

(Looking forward to seeing Pirates again.) Ahhhh...memories of my childhood and deregulated radios in the States. During and after the 80s, was the falloff in their use, in my experience. Trucking industry here still uses them quite a bit, but I've noticed it's contained within certain city centers and major highways. When I was working in and around Dallas - Fort Worth (Texas) area, it was booming. I both benefited from it and helped others in many traffic and road/weather conditions up there. Was glad to have it, for sure.

First you’ll likely need to change the setting to Dynamic in the menu as I’m betting your astatic microphone is a dynamic model. If that doesn’t fix the issue check your wiring to make sure no wires are making contact. If it still is doing it you may need to add a resistor in the microphone. I run a steel whip on my truck and a Lil' Will on my car. Haven't gotten around to mounting a 9' whip on the car. Lol...yet. The 102" whip needs a 6" spring. (It needs to be 108" for 11 meters.) I never could find a stainless spring (6") so I have a 4" spring with risers to bring the whip up to full 1/4 wave length. Still running a Cobra 29 in the truck, since it's temporarily mounted on the dash. When I do a hard install, I want SSB to go with it. If this radio (Richard) had SSB, I'd get two of them. I currently run a McKinley in my car (super great radio, can't recommend it enough). I actually wanted to run that in my truck, but since I only have one, it's staying in my car. Both rigs run an RM Italy 203P. Reports are great from pro radio users on the road with that combination. I come back to these older videos to refresh my knowledge about current models being sold, so when any newer models come out, I can do an honest comparison. Richard or McKinley ? as CB radio, no SSB. Richard have more power (but for what?) and better IMO knobs. Could be better tune. McK fave a complete radio, front speaker, SSB but knobs (especially RF Gain which I use instead of ASC) with steps. No smooth regulation as Walker/Richard.

I don’t understand why all of the no SSB talk.... I have this radio and love it! I have never seen the need for SSB or even understand why anyone would. Someone please explain.

Chasing skip on SSB is fun. If your primary use of the radio is chewing the rag with other drivers on the road and listening for road reports then SSB wouldn't be much use but, if reaching way out there and making contacts across the country or world is also your thing, having SSB on your CB is a must.

The original President Richard(Superstar 360) was from the SSB, but not the 2, it's a shame and misleading, he should have been called JFK and not Richard.

yeah, adjusting a radio without the proper equipment can and usually does lead to a disaster. Unless you know what you are doing, stay out of adjustments, it is only to easy to screw it up. Seen it to many times.

I've still got the Original President Richard .. AM,FM, USB, LSB, CW ...Having a rig these days without SSB is just a waste of time , Especially for 10 MTRS ... But as we all know it's a CB radio , Not a true 10 MTR radio .
