Address to the National Association of Evangelicals in Orlando, Florida that would come to represent Reagan's view of the Soviet Union. As a person currently migrating from a country (Bulgaria), that was touched by the soviets, to a western country, I agree completely with the last great US president in the modern era. Soviet Russia was and still is an evil empire. It's poison still flows through many countries. Ronald Reagan worked hard for the dissolution of the Soviet Union. He succeeded and that is why he is hated so much in Russia and in countries like mine. I noticed many rude comments about him in the comment section. Those are the same people that will continue to spread russian propaganda all the time. Those are the same communists from that era or their children. I have seen the west now and I can concur that life is great here. People have houses, not some 3 by 3 cell that they call home (one small example). So stop wasting your breath spreading your propaganda. You can't fool everyone.

Communism separated church from state. We do the same thing. Communism didn’t mean no religion in the nation it meant no religion in government. People use the religion narrative to set people against communism because it is simple and easy to understand. These people are bad because they are godless heathens. Meanwhile the Russian Orthodox Church plays a large part in their society despite communism. Most Russians are Christians just like you despite what Reagan says. Reagan uses this just like the Muslims in Afghanistan did because it is an easy argument. Just like America the Soviet Union made up a large group of people from different cultures many with different religions not atheism. God was not a part of their politics though. That is not why communism is bad. Does our system not ask for separation of church and state yet people like Reagan pretend America is 100% a Christian society and them100% atheist. In fact one of the few good things about communism is that they actually practiced separation of church and state. This is not a religious issue but he makes it that to pander to his idiot hardcore religious base. Meanwhile the majority of Russia is the same religion as them. Communism is bad primarily because it is a command economy. In a command economy supply chain decisions have a lack of information from the end of that chain. They have no idea what to produce and how much compared with capitalist economies rich with information. Religion is a cheap scape goat for explaining to people who lose attention when you start talking about manufacturing and retail. The Soviet Union was not an atheist society it was an atheist government. Someone isn’t bad because they are atheist. A system is bad not because it lacks god but because it lacks proper economic and political foundations. Our system can adapt based on public opinion while the Soviet system couldn’t. Communism encouraged theft crime and cheating to generate wealth while capitalism encouraged competition. God and religion do not play a part here and it is sad to see that is why people dislike communism instead of what actually makes it bad. Soviet grocery stores were empty because of the command economy not because of religion.

I still don't understand why Reagan and many other Americans thought God/religion and the Soviet Union were mutually exclusive. My mother, who grew up in the USSR and her family freely went to church and were able to practice Orthodox Christianity. She saw Tajik, Kyrgyz, Uzbek women at the bazaar covered with the Muslim style headcovering. There was even a time where our communist leader Leonid Brezhnev told Nixon "God will not forgive us". What kind of supposed atheist would openly say that to a western leader?

It is good to think of how he did it, because the gifts he brought to resolving the conflict reflected very much who he was as a man. He began with a common-sense conviction that the Soviets were not a people to be contained but a system to be defeated. This put him at odds with the long-held view of the foreign-policy elites in the '60s, '70s and '80s, but Reagan had an old-fashioned sense that Americans could do any good thing if God blessed the effort. Thank you Mr President for telling the truth. USSR and communism was and is evil. "Totalitarian darkness" encompassing an "evil empire" is entirely correct. All other presidents since Kennedy were content with détente, but President Reagan stated his intentions early on: "We win. They lose." After fixing the out of control interest, inflation, and unemployment, Reagan helped defeat communism with the downfall of USSR. He brought pride back into a nation after Vietnam, rescued the Iranian hostages, built up defense, and defeated the evil empire. That is why he is still the most popular president since WWII. The socialist Obama is, incidentally, the most unpopular one.

They were-and they’re back. Reagan won the Cold War, but things have been sliding steadily backwards for quite some time. In the book "Reagan’s Third Term" (by Gib Kearney), a coup in 1988 deposes Gorbachev and the Cold War goes hot. As an alternate history, this book offers some interesting contrasts to how things played out. In this version the Evil Empire returns, this time headed by Sergey Sokolov (who commanded the Soviet forces in Afghanistan). But they’ve met their match with Ronald Reagan. It is now clear that the Russians want their old empire back, and are counting on the West-and particularly the US, to be passive. As they say, those who fail to learn history’s lessons are doomed to repeating them. Hopefully the US will wise up. These days, we need leaders-real leaders like Ronald Reagan-more than ever.

He’s a good orator, not a good leader. That requires more than lying to your people, that requires putting one’s own neck on the chopping block so that others don’t have to go headless. I understand what you’re trying to say, though, and I do think the Russians are imperialists like us, but worse because Russian state interests don’t ever line up with the well being of the people, whereas our state interests sometimes do. We are the lesser of two great and terrible evils, by far. And it would be foolish to be irrationally afraid of putting the Russians back in their place.

And he was right.

Item #: SCP-1981 Object Class: Safe Special Containment Procedures: SCP-1981 is to be kept inside a secure video storage unit at the media archive of Site ██. When in use, SCP-1981 should not be removed from its casing or exposed to any strong magnetic sources. A Betamax home video system and an analog television has been provided in Observation Theatre 02 at Site ██, as well as video equipment to record viewings. Description: SCP-1981 is a standard Betamax tape. "RONALD REGAN CUT UP WHILE TALKING"(sic) has been handwritten on the adhesive sticker in felt tip pen. Laboratory analysis indicates that SCP-1981 is made of ordinary material, and serial numbers correspond with home cassette tapes produced in September of 1980. SCP-1981 was initially encountered by a filing clerk in the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in 1991, who upon watching it alerted the police, with the intent to find the tape's creator to press "obscenity charges". A low-level police investigation was conducted, at which point the Foundation was alerted and secured SCP-1981. Class A amnestics were administered before █████ could be notified. Further investigation of the library's records by Foundation personnel failed to yield any leads on SCP-1981's origin. SCP-1981 appears to be a home video recording of former United States President Ronald Reagan delivering his "Evil Empire" speech to the National Association of Evangelicals at Sheraton Twin Towers Hotel, Orlando, FL on 3/8/1983. However, at 1 minute and 10 seconds, the speech begins to deviate heavily, eventually resembling no known speech ever made by Reagan. Beginning at approximately 5 minutes, multiple incisions, lacerations and penetration wounds can be seen being slowly inflicted, though no corresponding source of these wounds is visible. Despite suffering bodily harm that would likely incapacitate an ordinary person, Reagan will continue to deliver his speech until either his vocal cords are severed or the tape degrades to static at 22:34. Upon rewinding SCP-1981 and initiating playback, Reagan will deliver an entirely new speech, often radically different from the ones previously observed. Topics have included torture, child molestation and ritual sacrifice. Trauma inflicted upon Reagan also appears to be divergent, with impalement, genital mutilation, and [REDACTED] having all been observed. In roughly one in seven viewings of SCP-1981, a figure clothed in black robes with a conical hood will have replaced a random member of Reagan's press detail, henceforth referred to as SCP-1981-1. The significance of the appearance of SCP-1981-1 is currently unknown. The speeches delivered by Reagan are mostly incoherent, lacking any sort of underlying thematic structure and largely being composed of nonsensical anecdotes and parables. However, occasionally references are made to future events that Reagan could not possibly have known about or predicted, such as the September 11 terrorist attacks, the result of the 2008 Russian elections, and █████ ██████████. For this reason, rigorous time and effort has been devoted to recording the speech delivered on each playback. Attempts to replicate SCP-1981 onto a similar Betamax tape have met with failure, however, cameras used to record the television SCP-1981 is broadcasted on have succeeded in "capturing" individual playbacks. Any observations performed on SCP-1981 must be recorded on the camcorder provided, and delivered for subsequent review to Dr. B█████, project supervisor. Years of natural magnetic interference has severely degraded SCP-1981's signal quality, making it even more difficult to sift meaningful information from playbacks. Additionally, the gruesome nature of the mutilations performed upon Reagan have been described as "extremely disturbing", and for this reason it is recommended that any personnel feeling squeamish or ill after playback visit the on-site psychiatry facility for a level 3 evaluation. As Ronald Reagan was alive at the time of SCP-1981's containment, a surveillance net was deployed to establish any relation between him and SCP-1981. No known connection was developed, though Reagan would frequently complain about "nightmares" before his mental state degenerated due to Alzheimer's.

Oh sure putting us on the brink of nuclear war for the first time since the cuban missile crisis. So was making numerous tax cuts for the rich. Also implementing a war on drugs that started nearly a decade before as part of the southern strategy because bitter white supremacists realized they had to find a way to continue institutional racism without letting the people know their true intentions. The said war apparently made things worse, for the people suffering addictions, people using calm substances like marijuana, and even the people who didn't use any drugs at all (expect the ones for medical purposes). the prison population increased from over 300,000 to 600,000-700,000. Also as governor of California, he repressed the black panthers which did more for the people of California than the government ever did or probably will within the next 10-20 years, in the forms of programs like the free breakfast programs, that one program for poor communities especially ones of color and so on.

Living conditions actually improve under socialism. Look at the Nordic countries and Canada, and compare them to the USA. Sure, some people in the US may be richer, but does everyone have access to higher education, healthcare, etc? What's good for the economy is not necessarily good for the people. For example, Social Security costs a lot, but it does a lot to prevent poverty among the elderly.

The Soviet man turned the USSR into an industrial power. The Soviet man won the most terrible war. The Soviet man restored the destroyed country. A Soviet person is a dreamer who read books and, looking at the stars, dreamed of getting closer to them. It is not surprising that it was the Soviet man who opened the space age to humanity in 1957 by launching the first artificial satellite, and in 1961, man. The United States was the first to create an atomic bomb and use it, while the USSR was the first to invent a nuclear power plant, giving humanity atomic peaceful energy. The evil empire is actually the USA and Great Britain. Few people know that Churchell killed millions of people in Bengal in 1943 by starving them to death. The United States dropped two atomic bombs on Japanese cities, started a war in Vietnam and committed real genocide there. While universities were opening in the USSR for the peoples of Africa, the last human zoo in Europe (Brussels) closed in 1958. Racial segregation in the United States flourished until the late 70s. Everyone knows that there was a Gulag in the USSR, but no one knows that the United States, since the 20th century, has consistently ranked first in the number of prisoners whose labor, thanks to the 13th Amendment, is used for free.
