Eff Jim Furyk, he's a typical schill for the PGA Tour. Let's see, you don't pick the player that's arguably had the second best season in the majors and the current US Open Champion. Bryson was T-6 at the Masters, 2nd at the PGA and won the US Open. Besides Xander, who had a better performance this year, maybe Scheffler? I'll wait.....

I agree DeChambeau should be on the team, but Furyk’s hands were tied. They put in a rule that only PGA players can be selected.

Has there ever been consideration given to a third event between the Euros and the internationals? This could create additional opportunities for both the Euro and International players. But even more importantly it would give the US players a much needed year off from the competition. The US currently plays in either a Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup event every year. And the events are played right after a very long season and then the pressure packed post season events. I think last year’s poor showing by the US reflects that a lot of the players were simply worn down. And having to travel to the other side of the world to play in a super pressure packed event has to harder than any of us can imagine. Sure they suck it up and do their best but the mind and body can only do so much when it is totally worn down.

Like Furyk breaking from the boys club regime. JT totally struggling. People hating JT not on the team going on the past and don’t like change. DJ past record just as good as JT. Hope Furyk wins but I don’t see it happening further showing how pga needs the Liv guys. And yes Akshay is hot and should’ve been a pick over Homa or Harmon.

I would believe in Jt but im overall very ok with Jim’s picks. Nick Dunlap is the snub that stands out considering the rook had 2 wins, 3 Top 10s and 6 top 25. But if not mistaken he did not get points for that first win, which would have put him much higher in the ranks. It’s hard to find lists that go passed 25 players but Dunlap is 28th in the standings …one spot behind Jordan, which makes no sense.

The easiest explanation is that the US still uses a two year qualification system. So players can have one really good year and not gain enough points to beat out a player who plays solidly over the two year period. On the flip side you sometimes have players who play really well in the first year and not as good in the year of the Ryder Cup but make the team on their overall points. So sometimes you get guys on the team who may not have done much when it counts (close to the matches) but there is nothing the captain can do.

Nick Dunlap will be an auto pick once he wins a Major or has a 3-4 win season in the next 2 years. Kids confidence in himself and mental ability at his age on top of the talent is rather impressive.

So players accumulate points over a period of two years, but only the top six are in, why? Here is a suggestion, same format for top six players, then for the six months leading to selection have another points race, then the next six highest players not already in are selected. No favorites, no boys club, no I was hot for 4 weeks.

In the future, I wonder why not pick the top 12 (and eliminate Captain's pick)?
@danmyers93724 ай бұрын
That’s pretty much what Furyk did. The biggest issue over the years for the US was its use of a 2 year qualification system. This resulted in players who sometimes played very well and accumulated a lot of points in the first year following a Ryder Cup but cooled off and didn’t play that well the year of the Ryder Cup. And the last thing you want is a player who has not been playing well recently. Like JT last year. He was not playing well and got picked by the boys club over Keegan whose game was in much better form going into the Ryder Cup.

Set up your criteria for selection and then take the first 12. If you want to put more weight on results closed to the event, fine, but make it objective and not so subjective. Subjective is how you can end up with a 'boys club'

I would have liked to see JT or akshay/dunlap over Homa. Both JT and Homa have shown to be great Ryder cup players and both of them are leaders but Homa has not played well at all since the masters. At least JT played well in the tour championship. Why not pick the guy who’s playing better right now? Both Akshay and Dunlap look like they have a good chance to be on next years Ryder cup team so it would have been nice for either of them to get some experience. Brian Harmon makes sense because he’s a good putter and accurate driver of the ball. Also he’s shown that he can perform even if the whole crowd is against him

They should not have Capt picks in any of the cup series in both the PGA and LPGA. You have a qualifying period in place, top 12 who qualify are the ones that should make the teams. You want the so called hottest golfers then change the qualifying period. I.E last 24 tournaments ensuring the majors are included. Players have to compete in a minimum 18 of the qualifying period. It simply is just not fair if a player qualified top 12 and is not selected. If you want to use the World Rankings same requirement take the top 12. Selections are only used to select the players that will draw, fans will come whether the so called draws are there or not.
