I feel like the remake did him justice. The original version of him sounded like a buffoon who relied on money to make his problems go away. Here, he's shown to be clever and resourceful enough to turn even a major setback to his advantage, like how he frames Avalanche actions as blatant terrorism to start a war that his company could profit from. A horrible human being for sure, but you can tell that he earned his position. Making it all the more horrifying when he was shown to be the lesser of 2 evils.

How president shinra found power and courage from the golden gun? Did Barret forgot he has like A10 calibre arm against a puny gun?

Maybe it's the Golden Gun from GoldenEye. You know them things a One hit Kill XD
@kariolm257911 ай бұрын
Funny thing about games like that (JRPG especially) is that power of a weapon is pretty arbitrary and tends to be however strong (or weak) as a story demands. But if we want to go into more realistic scope, Shinra got a jump on (unsuspecting) Barret. A .45 may not be as powerful as Barret's 7.62 gattling (guessing the caliber), but at that range, pretty lethal and he could get few shots out if Barret as much as twitched his right arm in wrong direction.

The reactor 1 bombing scene is way worse than George Lucas claiming that Greedo shot first. What's with these retcons for the heck of making the designated good guys less evil? Semi-evil heroes are way more interesting.

Actually it was implied in the original game that Shinra framed Avalanche for the chaos. They just made it more clear in the remake by actually showing it.

@@pancakes8670 What "implied" are you talking about? That' s stage 1 of original game. Barret set up the bomb. That's why you have timer as you escape. Your party knows exactly how many seconds before the bomb go kaboom. It's very clear.

I think it was a necessary change. Characters like Wedge, Jessie, and Tifa would realistically be horrified by the concept of doing all that damage. Yet in the OG no one ever comments on it. Jessie seems to have some regrets right before she dies, but that's it. The importance of the change is all of the characters' REACTION to this unforseen bigger-explosion. Biggs immediately jumps into denial, hoping that this couldn't have been them, owing to the fact that his character is now written as someone who anxiously frets over how any one thing can go wrong. Wedge maintains that it is possible it was them, and is clearly horrified by the outcome. This tracks with Wedge later being characterized as someone who always blames himself for negative outcomes, and has a lot of self-doubt. Jessie, being the one who placed the bombs, is utterly baffled as to how this could have happened, and though she tries to rationalize that this must've been something else, she comes to the conclusion that there's no other explanation - also blaming herself. There's an entire chapter dedicated to her trying to "right" that wrong, which goes to show how much her character values life; that she's in Avalanche for genuinely selfless reasons (a motivation that has a very real backstory revealed that very chapter.) And finally, Barret is completely adamant that it *doesn't matter*. No mater what they did, his focus is sending a message - and now that that message was sent, he convinces everyone to move on, in a very dramatic speech highlighting his skills as a team leader. He manages to comfort everyone's insecurities and assure them that they're doing the right thing, revealing how he managed to become such a respected leader, and showing how much Barret is committed to the end goal of destroying Shinra over the price of human lives.

Currently replaying the original on the switch and Cloud (at least whatever thoughts are inside of him) says "Watch out! That's no ordinary bomb." implying that the bomb they used wouldn't have made as huge of an explosion as they thought.
