I am from the South East but I must commend the APC for even zoning the position of Deputy Speaker to the South East. This is politics and not a game of sentiments. The unpopular South Eastern APC politicians should rather hide their faces in shame for their inability to sell their party to South Easterners instead of constituting a nuisance by challenging the magnanimous gesture that gave the deputy speakership slot to the SE. The question should be, how many SE NASS members-elect are in APC. Again by convention, the APC has the majority in the NASS so it's their decision to make.

The irony of this whole Senate President or Speaker of the house appointments is that the country should be worried about the salaries and benefits these individuals elected to these two houses are receiving. What difference does it really make as to which part of the country these individuals come from, the guest sporting the idea of the Senate President going to the Southeast failed to accept that the Southeast has produced the highest number of Senate President since 1999. At the time appointment decisions were made by the party in power for 16 years. The Southeast was dominated by the ruling party then. APC has only been in existence for 8 years and have not had as many opportunities to produce the speaker of the house. This is probably the third time that they are having the opportunity to do so. Therefore, they have to united on how they proceed to make these appointments. Nigerians fight over positions as if the opportunity for those positions only come up once in a lifetime. We see that that in all elections in the country. There is always another time in every elected and appointment positions. Why all these unnecessary fights and comments about zoning and marginalization? Nigerians get elected and appointed into Government positions around the world not because they are Nigerians but based on qualifications, experience and competence. Nigerians create unnecessary crisis on who should be elected or appointed based on ethnicity, religion and political affiliation. Which developed country in the world operate this way with all kinds of sentiments?

The south east have been voting overwhelmingly for losing candidates in the past three elections. In 2015 they voted for Jonathan who eventually lost to PMB. In 2019 they voted for Atiku who also loss to PMB. In 2023 they voted for PO who came third so they have not been voting for winning candidates
