Gotta say I am with Trump on this one. The dog is a great addition both for the story and combat potential, but to sacrifice a party slot like in Origins was sometimes a real cost and I found myself not using the dog as much as I would like. Also I want to say I have been looking forward to this video, I re-watched the first episode five times and this series has easily jumped into my top 3 of presidents content.

That’s a classic move ! It’s inconsistent because Joey and Daveth auto give their inventory after the joining scene but other temporary companions like the nameless tower mage and guards do not

I find it funny that Joe only beaten the game as a mage and here i am only beating it as rogue and warrior, i need to do a mage run soon. loving this so far btw.

Thanks for the support! I am honestly a warrior main personally in most games but a mage run in origins and two is essential theirs a lot of unique interactions!

I would love it if the mabari was a summon like dragon age 2 that was still a permanent member of your base or camp . I think having the dog as an ally is fun for narrative purpose but I don’t want him to take up a party slot.

I doubt that we'd get another Mabari as DAV seems like it won't really spotlight Ferelden, but there was that Mabari that Cullen encountered in the Winter Palace in Orlais.... So who knows? If we do see a dog in DAV, I'd hope we could bring them along as an extra rather than replacing one of the two NPC companions we can have in our party. Honestly though in Origins I always worried about Dog getting hurt in combat so I never really brought him lol - I felt too responsible for his safety. I think the most likely candidates for important animals in VG are going to be crows like with Leliana's rookery in DAI. My fantasy is that we'll get a pet Nug lol. I'd love that "Jesus, was that Swedish?"

I feel like it makes sense for a Dwarf to survive the joining, especially if you chose the Dwarven noble background cause not only have the dwarves been constantly fighting Darkspawn, there was an Aeducan bloodline Dwarf hinted to being a Grey Warden in the past by Duncan after Orzammar, right?

Their is a ancestor aeuducan that Duncan mentions in the wardens though we don't know the relation. Surviving the joining makes sense because not only have dwarfs been fighting the spawn but they have been passively effected by the blight already which has effected birth rates and a whole heap of medical issues but does already gain them a little resistance to the spawn!

Jory didn't know what he was signing up for though. Duncan was deceptive with him right up until the Joining. Jory was under the impression that he could even return to his wife and child after the Blight was defeated, which the Grey Wardens do not allow. Jory was no coward, he just saw no point in risking his life for no reason in the Joining ritual. Wynne was likely rewritten after the fact to be younger than originally intended, similar to Eamon. I blame World of Thedas and BioWare throwing established lore out the window to make a quick buck. As for Obama's theory, Wynne didn't take the spirit inside her until Uldred's forces attacked the Circle and unleashed the demons. So the idea that the spirit aged her doesn't hold up. Daveth was likely only recruited because Duncan was desperate and didn't care if he died or not. I disliked Alistair. I found him whinny and immature. As for him sticking with you? Ha ha. Not if you recruit that certain general he doesn't, which is oddly the first thing he did that actually made me like him somewhat. It was the first time in his life he actually made a decision for himself, even if it was out of selfish and shortsighted reasons. I think the Dog mod to make him a summoned pet is best. That way he doesn't fill a companion slot, but still acts like a companion. DA4 should probably have something else though, like summoned familiars or creatures that players can customize. The darkspawn blood thing is kind of lame, so I headcanon that my team only picks up the blood vials from the most powerful darkspawn, those being the emissary, one of the rogue genlocks near the Chasind cache, and the final hurlock at the ruins. 55:17 The archer who stood back up is a chick, actually. And I like to headcanon that she was my female archer Hawke.

We stand on Jory slander here , I really don’t think Duncan directly deceived him I think he was just foolishly optimistic with all his decisions . He was optimistic he could see his family again , he was optimistic that wining the tournament alone would earn his place and he was optimistic that he could join the wardens without danger or death. Also i was more so referring to how Wynne acts in the party camp and how she constantly talks about dying and feeling tired/winded. I know currently she is sprit free the aging thing was more so just a joke at joe.

@@CommanderFawkes You could be right that Duncan might not have directly deceived Jory, like for example assuring him he could leave the order and return to his family afterward. We'll never know for sure what was said between them, but I find it hard to believe that Duncan never caught on to Jory's incorrect assumptions in all the time they traveled together to Ostagar, and at the very least allowed him to keep believing incorrectly by not saying anything to contradict his assumptions. Duncan was even deceptive with our own protagonist, even if he claimed to have his reasons. So Duncan likely knew Jory was assuming too much and chose not to correct him, which is a form of deception, even if slight. But the original point is, Jory wasn't a coward. He simply was met with a situation he didn't expect and did not see any logic in. I think any sane person would react the same way if faced with such a situation in real life. The more logical approach would have been for Jory to still fight the darkspawn as he was always willing to do, and then take the Joining if he became infected with the taint during the battles. There's no reason to take the Joining first and risk losing a good soldier before the battle.

@@BelieveIt1051 This is a good debate! Truthfully I really don't think Duncan told jory anything misleading since its not like he misleads us either. I think jory was treating this as just a deployment and that he could return on his own but no one specifically told him he couldn't. Also Duncan's reasons for initiating the joining then and their are clear since he tells the player in most origin story's that all grey wardens are needed right now. Grey wardens are stronger due to the taint and they can kill the archdemon so its more valuable to have him as a warden then a normal soldier. Since even if every other grey warden biffed it but jory lived to kill the archdemon from duncans perspective that's still a win given the grey wardens nature. Yes duncan didnt say the joining was fatal until a few minutes before the joining but honestly if he told everyone that at the start no one would join he still does say it before it happens so its not really deceptive he just planned to tell you once you were more committed to this as a warning.

i like exotic pet companions, baby dragons, hydra's, ect the most. gun to my head though i like the dog to be a a mini companion that doesn't take a slot but has alot of party interaction like in 2 or a summonable thing you can call in a pinch or tough fight with alot of interactions in camp.

I’m kinda with both Donald and Joe on the dog take. DA2 did something interesting but I also want meaningful interactions with my doggo like you get with Scratch in BG3
