Is the phantom power button for all 8 preamps at once? Or can you choose which ones need it?

Are there no pads and if so is this not an issue for drums?
@AudioTechTV20 күн бұрын
This is an audio interface not a midi controller.
@mathewworkman162520 күн бұрын
@@AudioTechTV It sure is! Pads are for audio, not for Midi. Are you.... joking, or?
@AudioTechTV20 күн бұрын
@mathewworkman1625 oh man. I saw this when I first woke up. For some reason I was thinking midi pads like on a midi controller (this is the type of question I get often). This interface does not have pads on it and I’m pretty sure it’s not even in the control software for it. I haven’t recorded drums with it but I know a drummer that uses this same interface and loves it for recording his drums. I’m not sure what his exact mic setup is but I know he does use some high end mics in his studio so maybe mics with pads onboard for specific drums.

@@AudioTechTV I thought you might be an AI bot at first! Thanks for the info. Another channel said - that because the range is so.... wide.. you can turn these down to -15 ... which is pretty much the pad. I might grab one of these up this evening. Thanks, cheers!

Thank you! Just bought my 1824c and will be receiving it on Tuesday. Thank you, because you have reassured me about my purchase. It is a great deal! Can't wait to hear those XmaX preamps, and to start using Studio One Artist.

Are these better sounding than the interfaces they had out 10-15 years ago? I have a firestudio project, but am thinking of upgrading
@AudioTechTV Жыл бұрын
I can’t speak for your interface specifically but I can tell you that this is way better than my M-Audio FireWire 410 from the early 2000s. The dynamic range between the FireStudio Project and the 1824c seems to be the same. But the mic preamps look like they are upgraded. The converters are likely upgraded too. It if you’re happy with the FireStudio and have no reason to switch then stick with it. No need to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading.

considering this or the Scarlett 18i20 3rd Gen, any thoughts?
@AudioTechTV2 жыл бұрын
Both are very similar in connectivity. The 18i20 has those air buttons on the mic preamps if that’s something you like. The Scarlett 3rd gen mic preamps are really nice. And So far I’m liking the Presonus preamps too. It’s a hard choice between the 2. I think it really comes down to what preamps you prefer and if that air setting on the Focusrite is something you’ll use. Either way you go, you’re getting an excellent interface with a great software bundle.

is this good for drum recording?

This would be great for drums. It had 8 on board mic pres and can be expanded if you need more.

Why did you replace the id44? Specs, etc., are better on the Audient.
@AudioTechTV2 жыл бұрын
I’m testing the Presonus out as a possible replacement. I like that it’s rack mountable. My iD44 I bought it used and there’s an issue with the built in DIs and I think at least one of the onboard inputs is noisy. I know it’s not Audient’s quality. I have an iD4 that sounds a lot nicer. If Audient were to release a rack mountable version of the id44 I would be all over that. I’m sure there will be one someday.

@@AudioTechTV Thanks for the reply. I'm in the market for an interface at this time. I, too, prefer a rack-mounted interface. Get so tired when these manufacturers push the "You can throw it in your backpack" scenario. I like the stability of the rack mounted interface. I have had a few issues with Audient's customer service responses to questions asked, particularly concerning their converters. I've requested info on what converter the id44 uses, for example, and they send me information on its specs but refuse to state what converters are used. I think they've changed them since the initial id44 offering because of a fire at one of the converter facilities. Focusrite and Motu don't seem to have this issue. Have also suggested to Audient that a rack mounted unit be manufactured (several years back), as well as the convenience of a MIDI port. Also, since they updated most of their interfaces over the past couple of years, I asked when the id22 would be upgraded, as that unit has exactly what I need at the right price. However, it's an old piece of hear at this point, maybe right years since it came out, and would be folly to buy such old tech with all the quality gear out there today. But of course, they've refused comment on when/if that will ever be done. Makes me question their post-purchase support. The Presonus unit you're reviewing would be ideal if only they would improve it's specs a bit to compete with other units in its class. Just my opinion. I'm far from an expert but spending that kind of cash for me is a heavy expenditure so I'm looking for the quality that will last with the best specs possible.
@rjb75692 жыл бұрын
@🧿 GRiiM REAPER 🧿 Sorry to say, I don't consider myself to have the knowledge to advise you. I'm having difficulty determining the best interface for recording audio myself. Most of the manufacturers have improved their specs in recent years to where those in the know indicate that the audio conversion (AD/DA) should be fairly high quality, no matter which interface is chosen. The Presonus mentioned above would be the best choice for me as I like a rack mounted unit, and have Studio One as my DAW, but their specs (signal-to-noise, etc.) seem a bit inferior to the other typical manufacturers like Focusrite, Audient and Motu in the price range I'm looking at,

Wondering can the 1824c be used as standalone micpres without connecting to the computer? Thanks.
@AudioTechTV2 жыл бұрын
That was something I actually wanted to do with it and from what I have found, it is not possible. Apparently there is a “trick” to get it to work by starting it connected to a computer and then disconnect it which isn’t convenient.

@@AudioTechTV I see. Can I ask, does the UC Surface remember the different mixes setup after computer is rebooted? I don't see any way to save the setup within UC Surface. Do we have to setup those different mixes every time? Thanks.
