I believe every channel is capable of Hi-z on this unit. I've plugged in Guitar and Bass on random channels without a DI and never had a problem, but if you're running more than 10', you'll want a DI to keep the signal clean.

Your videos are fantastic and so helpful, thank you! It would be great if you could walk through the process of setting up monitor mixes on the aux sends for a band. I'm assuming you do one baseline mix (drum gates, compressors, etc.) then copy and paste to the other aux sends, then adjust from there? What's the best workflow?

I typically only do a single monitor mix, because our church has a small worship team. I set up custom monitor channels for drums, guitar and piano, and they complained it was too complex, so we just reverted back to a single mix. But, yes, setting one mix, copying and adjusting would be the best workflow :)

I've not tried to change that setting myself, but I believe you can select post FX as the sound source for your Aux mixes.

Great Video! For the StudioLive 24R, how would you set up monitors with a digital stage snake (NSB 16.8 Network Staged Box). I am unable to get any sound going through the monitors I have set from the digital snake. I have digitally patched everything correctly and can get sound out through the mains, but not floor monitors. Any solution to this?

Hi! For a Vocal channel, I've set all EQ and Compression, which I can hear working when listening to the MAIN output, but listening on monitors in the other room, sending vocal channel to auxillary 1 and 2 (outputs on back of the rack unit) the FAT Channel effects like Eq and compression have no effect. I cannot find a video explaining why.

Hi Great Video. I have an issue when I trying to record on a DAW (logic, Reaper, Live) but I do not seem t have control over the gain trim. The term nob is not affecting the signal level, leading to distortion when the signal gets too high from source. Please help.

When an SD Card is inserted, there's an option that appears on the right hand side. Click on the icon, and it will take you to the recording Interface. I think you can also launch it through the Capture 3 software that's available for free on the Presonus website.

That's a matter of selecting where in the signal chain your Aux channel takes it's audio from. You want to shift it to just before Post Fader.

Great video Andrew. I am a novice. I cannot get sound out of Aux monitors (Mains outputs are fine). Do you recommend any resources. I did see your other videos but still unable to figure out. Also how do you channel computer sound via USB to output? Is this something to do with Users Profiles? Thank you.

User Profiles allow multiple users to have their own setup, without others being able to mess with their settings. This is useful in a church with multiple services or a theatre with multiple tenants. Each group can have their own layout, which others cannot adjust. To get sound out of the Aux channels, you need to connect to the 1/4" outputs on the back and then adjust the levels. you can adjust the levels on Aux channels by selecting the Aux channel you want to adjust on the panel just to the left of the main fader. The fader bank will then change from white faders to yellow faders to indicate you are no longer adjusting main speakers. Bring up the faders for the Aux Out you want to use, and you should hear sound as long as you set the gain properly when you were setting up the mains. Hope that helps :)

Thanks Andrew! One question: I have a Series lll 32R. Can I just use it for our stage box with connecting the 32R w/a Ethernet or USB to a computer. No need to get the FOH big console? And route the Mix to another Presonus 96 interface for the Mix that goes online. Presonus really doesn’t “confirm” that scenario. Our FOH could use the computer to Mix and route the Mix OUT to Facebook or KZbin. Basically can I do it all with just the 32R on stage running a 50foot Ethernet cable to FOH, for our Church. I've not tried to do that. I don't think so unless you're using Studio One to control the unit. With Studio One you can customize your view.

If you were sending pre-recorded music into a 16R, 24R, or 32R (like a DJ would be doing), can the compressor be configured for ducking so that when making introductions, announcements, etc., the mic can be clearly heard over the music rather than needing to ride the sliders on the music channel up and down?

I haven't tried that in a live setting, but you could do so editing afterward in Studio One using a sidechain.

That is an in-depth conversation. There are plenty of videos about eq for drums, and I'm not an expert on that. I'd recommend you search on KZbin for information on that.

I don't have any add-in compressors. What you see there came with, but I have a Presonus Sphere account, so I may have a few tools that don't come with the other versions, and I'm just unaware because I got them included in the package.

I'm not sure how you would do that. You could use a phone or tablet to control the device and have two channels set up from the same input. You could toggle the mutes on the two channels, turning one off and the other on, but it would be somewhat cumbersome. The best solution would be to have a sound tech making that switch for you, or have two mics onstage, one for singing, the other for talking. There might be a way to do what you're suggesting, but it's not clear to me how you would accomplish it.

To power cycle the mixer you click on the 'gear' icon in the top right corner of the control software, then select the 'power icon' tab and click 'shut down'. Takes 30-60 seconds to save settings, then it can be shut off. Turn it on again and wait 30 seconds. It's wise to regularly back up your settings, which can also be accessed through the 'Gear' settings menu.

Yes, you can open the file in Studio One and it will preserve all the settings from the live session.

You can link channels with an icon that looks like two links of a chain. You can only link certain channels. 1+2 or 3+4, but not 2+3. Only an odd number with the even channel one increment higher.

Hi Andrew...You are the only one I have found that actually shows how the StudioLive III works. I just purchased the 32R for my keyboard rig and I use Logic X. I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere and thought maybe you would know. I finally got sound to come out of my monitors but all of the faders on Logic's tracks do not work. I can only control the levels with Universal Control. Someone said something about gain staging....I am new to all this stuff...I just want to play my keyboards ! It seems I should be able to use the faders in Logic to control the levels being recorded.? Thank you in advance if you know what I am talking about, and thanks for what you have already put out.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with Logic X. That sounds like a midi issue, and I'm a guitar guy. I would guess it has something to do with assigning midi channels appropriately but I'm really out of my depth with that question. Sorry :(

Hi Rob, I am a Logic Pro X user and I can only tell this: 1) The analog input levels into Logic are set with your computer audio interface (the device that converts your analog signals to digital and feeds them into your computer via USB, firewire etc.) 2) You need to know how to rout your interface's digital outputs into Logic's digital inputs. That would mean knowing which output your interface channel is routed to and then selecting that output as the input to Logic at the top of the channel strip. 3) If you are using midi you just need to instantiate a midi keyboard plug-in in Logic's channel strip like the ES24 and away you go! Hope this helps.

@@younken24films thanks for your input Chris. I don't even see "digital inputs" in Logic. I see assign I/O but that just gives me choices for L and R stereo or 5.1 etc. I can hear the tracks fine. It is controlling the levels is the problem. I guess it is the pre and post fader thing....I think the problem is in Logic and not the Presonous ....not sure. I would think someone knows how to do this....I am way late to the game. I will be taking a deep dive into Logic....thanks again.

@Jon M. Taylor Hey Jon, thanks for your suggestions. I do have Logic's channels set up to receive signal from presonous channels ie. channel one from presonous to channel one in Logic also Logic input one. Presonous channel two goes to Logic channel two, input two. etc. I am getting internal sounds from the soft synths inside of Logic routed to channels 37/38 (USB) and can control their volume with the digital return fader on presonous. My problem is I can not control the amount of signal strength on the Logics's channels with Logic's faders. nor can I control signal strength in presonous with presonous faders. The only way to control signal strength is from the actual instrument. Maybe digital mixers are different, but for the past 40 years I have always given 100 % of signal strength from my synths to the mixer and the mixer's faders determines the levels being used....not sure what I am missing here. Sweetwater just sent me to Presonous and apparently no one at Presonous can figure out what I am trying to explain...I think this is pretty much straight forward what my problem is. I will try the Presonous chat room again. .....thanks again.

You need an older SD card that's no more than 32GB (it can't use the more recent versions). Then click the icon on the right hand side of the Universal Control just under 'FX' and hit record.
