I came here to relearn from Gregory, and I was doing it correctly to begin with. What I found was that my kick was tuned too low and THAT was why my bass was getting sucked out. So I tuned the kick an octave higher and problem fixed. Although I still did this exactly as Gregory explained. Now my bassline and kick are symaptico. Bass basses and kick hits, with a tasty pump on the bass.

Side chain in studio one is good but it has one huge bug which makes it useless when the projects goes huge for CPU processing. Say for an example, you have two tracks Kick and Bass. Insert a compressor in bass track and select Kick as Sidechain input. Now right click on bass track and select "Transform to Audio". It renders the bass track with plugins then again right click on bass track and select "Transform to realtime Audio", studio one should recall the compressor with Kick as sidechain input but instead it reset the SC input. This bug makes sidechain useless because you cant freeze it when projects becomes huge for CPU to handle. Raised this issue in version 4 but still this bug exist ..

Also, If you find yourself going for the a similar or even the same compression effect you can save it as a template. That way any time you want to use it you don't need to recreate it by hand.

Hello, Gregor, thanx for tip! By the way, how can I use sidechain in S1 v.5 if it doesn't have check mark for "side", but only input? In this case the carrier sounds always and I have to make another bus for it to mute. Is there any elegent way to solve this in this version, I would much appreciate ?

Hi, as the guru you must know how to sync my effects to Studio One. These effects (Nightsky and Microcosm) that are not connected to USB, just receive Midi. Is there a way to send midi and through what. Does the output of the Quantum 2626 send clock info anyway or do I have to turn a knob somewhere for it is off course not seen as a device in 'add device' Thanks, Rob

Nice video Gregor! Just a thought about this. When you duplicated the compressors into two channels, I assume there were two separate effects created with their own parameters? I usually create a bus channel with a compressor on it and route the channels I want to duck to the bus. This way I could create a consistant ducking effect for all of the tracks and tweak it in one place. Do you see any drawback using this method?

Hi Robert, the only drawback I would see is that you might have less control over the individual Thresholds - using my method, you can control the amount of "pumping" for each channel using the send sliders on the Kick drum channel. -GBY

Gregor, I haven't used side chaining much, but I have used it some. I am mostly into Classic Rock, Country Rock, Pop, and Folk Rock, so it just hasn't come up much, HOWEVER, I really appreciated this explanation and the tips. Could you possibly address a different issue I am having? When I use drum loops, or midi, or sometimes just when I am using Render To Audio, I almost always get the dialog box stating that I am clipping and it's usually by a lot. I end up having to bring the track volume down to a really low level, just to not clip during this operation. I do this quite often, in order to reduce CPU problems. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Hey Gregor, I am renting to own studio one 5 through splice but have been considering joining presonus sphere. I was wondering if I join will I eventually own my copy of studio one after I make a certain amount of payments and also if I switch and cancel my splice copy will I have to re-download a different version of studio one? Or if I keep renting to own studio one 5 until I pay it off can I upgrade to studio one 6 at a discounted price? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm aware that the chances of Gregor reading this a year after is slim, but I have a problem with sidechaining as soon as I work with multi-out VSTs. Example, I route my drums to like 6 mixer channels, I route those mixer channels to a drum buss. Normal stuff. Now I want to sidechain the kick to a pad instrument. I load the stock compressor, activate sidechain and choose "send". Immediately the volume of the kick goes up and ignores its channel settings. I can lower the volume on the mixer channel down to -inf dB - it's still at full volume. Why is this happening? I couldn't find any other person having this problem, or at least they're not asking on the web. Gregor, please, if you can, evaluate this. What is happening?

Hi, if you want to make absolutely sure that what you are hearing is exactly what you are recording, then my favorite method is to record the Main Output onto a dedicated Audio Track in real-time (a so-called "Print Track"). Although you can safely pay for products from other software manufacturers in the USA. I always thought that music was outside politics, but I was probably wrong... It's a pity that I can't get the upgrade from version 5 to version 6. You will have to buy Cubase 12 because payments to Germany go through without problems.
