Tried it and it works! I always mixed, avoiding clipping but having wide dynamics and ended up with very soft songs. One question, though: Why shouldnt I just use a compressor in my Mastewr?
@DeltaWhiskeyBravo13579 Жыл бұрын
One big difference that I'm aware of is that a brick wall limiter will not let audio go above your set limit. And in most every case I can think of, a limiter is actually a compressor with a high ratio with something on the lines of 20:1 or higher. However, you can try the compressor vs limiter of your choice and listen to the results. Do an A/B comparison and see what you like better.

Hello Joe. When I put the limiter on during mastering of something of mine the tone of the snare changed, (for the worse). It became too prominent, there was too much crack in the sound. Before it was more subtle. I tried backing the input level of the limiter off but this didn't seem to work. Any suggestions please? Thanks.

Hey Joe. How come when I splitter the frequencies (high from low on the master bus) and I put a limiter on both sides of the splitter it clips. Shouldn't the limiters brick wall both sides of the splitter to 0 db?

Hey remote buddy! LOOK: in here you grab that meter and just drag to make it vertical: It eerily seems your videos' goal is to KEEP doing "BOTH"! ... So people get to pick it all up, AND because we just do that ourselves too! I DO hope YOU keep on doing both!! Cheers!

I never really understood where I should put the limiter. Should it be in insert or post?! Joe, apparently puts it in post. I always put it at the end of the chain as an insert, is that wrong? Can anyone enlighten me on the difference?
@DSchwachhofer2 жыл бұрын
I think insert is happening before the fader and post after the fader. So if your fader stays at 0 DB all the time it doesn't make any difference. But if you're using the fader to level some of the louder and quieter parts of your mix then the limiter (and perhaps other dynamics processors, too) should go into the post section
@azizalami8352 жыл бұрын
@@DSchwachhofer never thought of it, i'll try that see if it makes a difference. Do you know why then Joe turns it off ?

Hi Joe ! Beginner question 🙏🏻 What is the difference in Main Output between insert and post section? Thank you !
@Hipox132 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'm not Joe, but consider myself eligible to answer: simply put, insert section is pre-fader and post section is post-fader.
@azizalami8352 жыл бұрын
@@Hipox13 Like Mohamad, I don't quite understand whether to put the limiter as an insert or as a post? If I understand correctly, following your explanation, I have to put two limiters, one in insert so that it affects my mix and one in post for export. That's right?
@MatthewSharp02 жыл бұрын
@@azizalami835 i use the limiter in post on the main and it works great. theres so many different ways to use the limiter but ive had great results by using it in post on the main.

To Matthew, so I should click and drag the Limiter to the Main slider within the post position, NOT the insert position. Correct?

@@azizalami835 No, anything after the fader is not included in the export. Make a little test with gain utility and see yourself :)

Nice and useful for beginners, but pelase don't irk or alienate your more serious & experienced users: this is NOT a "video manual", it's just a simple explanatory video with some POSSIBLE application example. And btw not all the advice & ideas & explanations in this video are 100% correct or technically sound. Let's not lower the bar, guys, S1 is a great DAW.
