Here's my two cents. Every relationship can be cultivated different ways. What is acceptable or not in my relationship is not necessarily what works for other people. I may not agree with other couples choose to do (non harmful) but if they have an agreement between them, that's their business. That's why it's so important to have those talks with your SO. So you can find a compromise or find what they or yourself are not willing to move on. For my relationship it's a no no but I'm not gonna knock another couple for their choices.
