Playing with a fixed number of pikmin of only 20 reds, 20 blues and 10 yellows and using olimar as a invincible diet forklift... is genuinely impressive, but there is always been one thing that bothered me about the video and that thing is, *that* *the* *whole* *video* *is* *a* *lie* . Well it's technically true that he only uses 50 pikmin in his run he kinda uses a loophole to do it, and that loophole is restarting the day when you restart the day it goes back to the beginning of the day, so if you rewind the day you come back to when you still had 50 pikmin, but the catch is. That it doesn't raise your total pikmin count, so technically he still had 50 pikmin in his run, but where it falls apart for me is how he disregards all the parallel universes he lost which obviously doesn't add up to 50. And i know the game doesn't look at it this way, but i do. I don't see the difference between losing all pikmin or just swapping timelines using the reset button. In my eyes a undisclosed number were used not 50. So it bates the question, can you actually just use 50 Pikmin to beat the game or do you have to use this international game design option loophole to do it? Well let's find out. Btw don't take this seriously at all, it's sarcasm and is by no way my opinion i made it because i though it was funny comment idea.

90, if you count each pikmin converted by a candypop bud as an entirely new pikmin. You need 20 red pikmin to complete day 1, 15 yellows to get the Libra, and 40 blues to get the Anti-Dioxin Filter, which adds up to 75 total. However, the Chronos Reactor is impossible to get glitchless without converting 20 blue pikmin into yellow pikmin, because you need yellows to reach the part but can't get them over the water via normal means (I guess with really good pikmin calling skills you could swim them over, but resetting the pikmin drowning timer like that might count as a glitch, so we'll disregard it). fortunately, with 40 blue pikmin (that you needed anyway for the Anti-Dioxin filter), you can avoid having to convert any Yellow Pikmin back into blue pikmin by converting exactly 20 blues and then using your other twenty blues to carry the part once it's off the ledge, and then you can save the stranded yellows by coming back at the end of the day and whistling them into your party, letting cutscene power teleport them across the water. Then those yellows can be used to grab the Libra, meaning you'd only have to sprout 70 pikmin instead of 75. Here's how the route would go: *Sprout 20 red pikmin on day 1 to grab the Engine. *You need at least 30 pikmin in total in order to get enough parts to reach the Forest Navel, because you need 4 more parts to do so and the area only has 3 that can be carried with less than 30 pikmin. You could technically get the job done with 29 reds and 1 yellow, but if you need 10 more pikmin anyway, might as well just get 10 yellows. *Get 40 blue pikmin. If you want to mimimize total pikmin numbers as well as sproutings, you can grow 20 blue pikmin the regular way, and then unlock the Distant Spring and get the remaining 20 blues via candypop bud - just make sure you've done everything you wanted with your reds before you convert them, as you'll never be able to turn any pikmin back into red pikmin for the whole run. *Use your blues to get the Anti-Dioxin Filter and the Zirconium Rotor, as you won't be able to get them after the next step. *Grab the Chronos Reactor, converting 20 of your blues into yellows to get it down from the ledge and then using your other 20 blues to carry the part the rest of the way. Go back to whistle the stranded yellows into your party at the end of the day so that you don't lose them to nightfall. *Now that you have at least 20 yellows, go back to the Forest Navel and get the Libra. *Everything else should be pretty cut and dry. If you grew your 40 blues the old fashioned way, then you'll end the run with 20 red pikmin, 30 yellow, and 20 blue, but since twenty of those yellows were originally blue pikmin that got converted via candypop buds, that's 90 total pikmin sprouted. If you used a candypop bud to get more blues while keeping total pikmin count as low as possible, you'll have 50 pikmin and 40 candypop uses, which is still 90 total pikmin sprouted.

Slight error in your calculations- you can't convert all 20 of your reds into blues. That triggers an extinction and will spawn one red pikmin automatically, which is an additional pikmin that we want to avoid.

@@mleem1771 I never said to convert all 20 of your reds into blues, you just need to make sure you won't need any of the reds you do convert later - and you'll have to convert at least 11 of them, since you enter the Distant Spring with only 10 yellow pikmin, and can't convert all 10 of them into blues for the same reason you can't convert all 20 red pikmin. I guess I should have said "make sure you've done everything that you'd need more than 9 red pikmin for". (You might think that you'd need 10 red pikmin in order to push the last box in the Final Trial, but it's possible to throw yellow pikmin over the water such that they can reach the box without having to navigate the fire at all, so it really doesn't matter what combination of red vs. yellow you toss into the blue candypop bud as long as you don't trigger an extinction of either type.)

I'm curious what the minimum day count is under this restriction. There's a TAS that manages the 6 day completion with 50 total Pikmin, but I wonder how much restricting to 50 sprouts slows you down.

I think 6 days is the lowest amount possible, no matter what. You need 1 day for the tutorial, 1 day for forest of hope, 1 for forest navel, 1 to go back to the impact site, 1 for distant spring and 1 for the final trial.

i personally disagree with the notion that candypop buds 'increase' the pikmin count due to them 'transforming' pikmin and not actually adding to the overall population count, but i *am* interested in what a glitchless run vs any% run looks like. playing the game as 'intended' is just as interesting as playing when pushing the game to its absolute limits imo :) i would consider myself both uninterested in personally pushing games, but also unskilled to do so, so seeing people able to to use glitches and tricks is always fun.

The difference between Candypop Buds and swapping your pikmin via the onion is this: You're actually transforming your Pikmin from one type to another with a candy pop bud, while with the onion you're putting pikmin away to get more out.

I'm sorry, you may have "completed" the game, but to pull it off you resorted to cheating. It's one thing to exploit a game mechanic to avoid growing more pikmin, Cowfoodyum used candy pop buds while you utilized Olimar's ability to nap to nudge ship parts. The problem with your run is that you also had to glitch out of bounds to pull it off, which completely invalidates it.

Glitches are a part of the game, he didn't use an external cheating device. In my opinion as long as anyone can do the run right now without an external cheating device then it counts as beating the game.
