Can You Beat Pikmin Without Killing A Single Enemy?

I'm going to try to beat Pikmin 1 without killing a single enemy, which is also known as a pacifist run. That means I can't kill any enemies but it also means I can't use their bodies to sprout more Pikmin. So I'll have a limited amount of Pikmin to use which will make this challenge run even harder.

For the bridge in the forest of hope, you can complete the bridge and get the part on day 2 before the sheargrubs even spawn. It's even done in speedruns. Edit 1: You have to throw the pikmin across, almost drowning them, to get to the other bridge since you wouldn't have blues at that point. Edit 2: The best part of the run is that the breadbug gets to live, since its part is not necessary.

Pikmin 1 and 2 have a case of "if you can't see it, it doesn't exist". In order to save on hardware resources Pikmin 1 and 2 will not process most objects if they are far off-screen. It's something that is abused in many speedruns of the game and would make many of your challenges easier (but also feel somewhat disingenuous).

Awesome video! Although here’s a fun little fact that might have already been spammed in the comments here… if you don’t watch the Pikmin return a part, they are safer! Usually… As enemies in this game and pikmin 2 will unload if offscreen, far enough away *and* have no Pikmin near them. Offscreen/far away Pikmin moving near their location then doesn’t load them back, only if the camera or the player gets near. Either way, great job on the challenge, and this method makes it more fun to watch/challenging anyways!

I would argue that the clamclamp doesn't really count as a "death" since it doesn't stop doing anything. Even without an object in it to attack, it'll eat pikmin regardless. I think there is a postgame tally of foes defeated and if it counted there then yeah it sucks that counts.

always feel in these games where even during planning you'd know you can't in the most literal, I feel that the rule of Pacifist is "without killing non-mandatory NPCs". In this case, that is what you did and I feel it counts. It is the same idea as the "Yellow only" run or the like. Part of these challenges that are fun is actually seeing how doable they are from their reasonable starting point, not saying "well actually you didn't start with it so you failed from the start" is just boring.

Will admit, was expecting you to pop up at the end with something like 'but mama didn't raise no quitter', a reprise of a line you used earlier, and then you go and beat up Bulblax anyway to go for 100% completion with minimal kills

Yeah, it's definitely not an enemy death in the typical sense. It's just the way they made it so you couldn't just grab the part without a challenge.

For the Armored Cannon Beetle, you can throw one Pikmin when he is about to throw rock and he is gonna overheat and run like a maniac. The thing is if you don't attack him on the back, when he is running, he won't die and you don't risk any casualties.

I've never completed a Pacifist run, but in my attempts, I also try to avoid Pikmin deaths, since letting your comrades die is not the Pacifist way. That's probably why I gave up and left it alone for awhile lol.

8:25 Those sheargrubs (and most sheargrubs - any that aren't interested in destroying a bridge) won't come out of the ground unless olimar is there. If you let the pikmin carry the part by themselves, they'll be completely safe because only Olimar triggers them to come up.

You can distract the first 2 bulbears you can find by throwing a pikmin into the area where you can get some bomb rocks and awakening the bulbears. The bulbears can’t kill the pikmin like this and will try and chase it but it won’t suceed
