Can You Beat Pikmin 2 With Only Blue Pikmin?

I try to beat Pikmin 2 with only blue Pikmin. As part of a challenge with Lemon from ‪@TheBacklogs‬. I'll be beating the game with only blues and he'll be trying to beat the game with only Purple Pikmin. Whoever gets the most treasure wins.

You really should give it a go. It’s amazing. If you don’t know what device to get It on I recommend switch. It has all games. (except Hey! Pikmin. That game sucks though) and if you aren’t sure which one to start on I DO NOT recommend 2. The caves are for people who played Pikmin before. If you’re on a budget get 1+2 bundle on the switch. If not I recommend 3 or 4. 4 is more well easier because of the massive amounts of help they give you. And 3 well it’s good but it’s a little easier than 2. (I beat 3 with the hardest mode and I lost less than 100 pikmin)

27:07 It’s due to the poison vent’s proximity to the wall. In order to make it so that you couldn’t break down the intended above ground poison gate walls without whites, they programmed it so that walls with poison gates near them can only be broken down by White Pikmin (and probably Bulbmin, although I’m not sure). A side effect of this is that sometimes poison vents spawn close enough to gates underground to unintentionally trigger the effect. :p

Lol, yeah! He thought it was a glitch, but it was actually a design choice that the devs made specifically to stop people like him from breaking poison walls with nothing but invincibility frames and patience, which is something that he absolutely would have done if he was able to.

Note that you can actually skip unlocking Purples in VoR: if you collect a treasure or your first enemy while plucking one purple in the Emergence Cave (since the only treasure in sublevel 2 is the atlas you'll need your first enemy) it lets you pause after the cutscene and exit the cave before the "purples discovered" cutscene plays. This lets you grab the Spherical Atlas using ~91 reds and that sole purple, skipping discovering purples entirely! This means you can't draw purples from the ship and they aren't shown on the HUD.

Honestly I'm surprised you both just didn't house rule that you can collect any treasure needed for progression, but if it's not technically available to your pikmin type, at the end you just don't count it. That way unless you pick red you remove the battery. He picked purple so he can count the atlases but not you, ect.

As a Pikmin 2 speedrunner, the moment you said to remember the Decorative Goo, I audibly went "oh no". Goo Clip has been known to break people's will and I would not wish it upon anyone. Fun video, though. You did a lot of good research and presented it all in a fun manner. And congrats on getting a successful charge on the Ragu lid, and getting as much done as you did. I might suggest touching up your script-writing, though. You mispronounced a couple of things (like "Decorative Glue"), alternated often between calling them treasures and parts, and re-explained stuff like Mum Bump with the Creeping Chrysanthemums a couple of times as if the first explanation never happened. None of it ruined the video by any means, but it felt noticably a bit more unpolished to me, where everything else felt more carefully put together, relatively.

This game never ceases to amaze me with how many glitches and speed tech it has. Honestly no Pikmin game will ever top Pikmin 2 as my favorite imo, even with its glaring flaws its still a great game and one I always find myself replaying more than any of the others. I'd love to see more challenges for Pikmin 2 honestly!

I think it would be fair to unlock all 4 areas, but you can only retroactively count parts you could’ve gotten with that type So you CAN use the parts you got from Perplexing Pool - but you’d have to subtract the 2 globes from your count (since you can’t get them with just blues)

I can explain the unbreakable wall glitch. If a poison emitter is too close to the wall, the game reads it as a poison wall, which can only be broken by white pikmin.

So I have an idea that could potentially unearth buried treasures via using glitches, but for it to work you'd need to find a way to clip out of bounds while holding a pikmin when underground. If you triggered a cutscene while falling and you had a pikmin on you, you'd be able to get the pikmin to unearth the treasure. On that note as well, I think you could have one of your captains run out of health to force a cutscene that you can use more than once.

If a poison geyser is too close to a gate, the game will make the gate completely invincible to all damage from pikmin EXCEPT white pikmin.

Just a quick thing on the bomb rocks I'm fairly sure theres only 2 triggers for bomb rocks to fall and that's if u walk past it or if u dig up designated items like the skull

I got a unique challenge. 100 each. You play the game however. In total, only one hundred of each pikmin type can exist. However, as soon as the total number of a pikmin types reaches 100, pikmin of that color can not be made. Basically if 30 out of 100 red pikmin die, you now have 70 to work with, however, you can increase your numbers through candy pop buds

You can do the same to the wall blocking off Subterranean Complex using the Decorated Cannon Beetle’s rocks as well! Napsack climbing is easier, ultimately, but it’s still a neat trick.
