I was 10 years old when this video was posted and now using it as a learning tool in building my first AK. Absolutely bonkers

I used motor oil to mate the barrel parts and installing it into my trunion. Works great. if you're okay with all the gel cleaning afterwards. :D

Thanks man, this video actually shows what I needed to see. I plan on building up a kit from an NDS receiver one day.

he never took another step closer to finishing the 74 it’s been 13 years. The entire thing is rusty in the garage on the floor

Awesome video. I was trying to figure out, on a complete gun, can you press barrel out and new one back in with trunion still riveted into receiver, My guess is you can with right tools. Where a good place to find the right tools for this work? Thank you very much. Did great work! 😊

@abogadisimo The ram size is the press ram size. They come in 1", 1.25' and 1.5". Most get the Harbor Fieight shop presses. So, it depends on the ram of the press...

I think I got in over my head. I can fuck with Ar's in my sleep, I am going to spend more in time and money on Jigs and what not than this parts kit is worth. Thank you for your videos though!

I know this is a little late, but I got a couple of brass ones at the local ACE hardware store.

If it's a chore...why are you interested in the process, just out of curiosity? I actually find it relaxing, and when I am done with it, rewarding; but I have never thought of it as a chore.
@rollin-nx2lq3 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't you want to also file the chamber edge ever so slightly too?
@m0ondoggy13 жыл бұрын
@ScopedOUT2 It depends on when and where they were made. Russian (and other Eastern bloc) Milled and Early Yugo Milled AK's had threaded barrels. Later Bulgarian Milled AK's were press and pin. All AKM pattern are press and pin, however barrel journal diameters vary by country and pattern (Euro, Chinese, Yugo).

When you pressed the barrel. When do you stop pressing, when the barrel pin hole aligns with barrel or you press till you cant no more?

@warriorofsteel0115 жыл бұрын
@762full so is paying 500 dollars for a run of the mill wasr 10... at least this way you can make it the colors you want....i wonder how much accurate an ak would be with a milled receiver

Hey. Nice video. Can you point me in the right direction to source that barrel alignment tool?

So is the actual trunion suppose to be tight around the barrel or just the rivets sticking out a bit after squishing them? What surface is holding the barrel in place?
@richardroot47672 жыл бұрын
So, if the bolt locks into the front trunnion, head space is how far the barrel is pressed into the trunnion's journal? Also, is there a split collet that will hold the barrel in an arbor press, so that I can press the trunnion down onto the barrel? I'd hate to have to buy that giant as H-frame press.
@kristenladetto12592 жыл бұрын
You'll need a set of headspace gauges, pacific tool & gauge sells them you can also find sites that rent them at a very reasonable price. You want it to barely close (i.e., takes a bit of force) on a go-gauge and hardly move at all on a no go. be sure to do this with a stripped bolt that is in it's carrier for most accurate measurement. You cannot use an arbor press, will need a 12ton H-frame at min most builders use a 20 ton. As for specialty tools search for a gentlemen named robert forbus, he makes some of the best build tools for AKs on the market.
@y2kenyon3 жыл бұрын
that was "unethical" what you did with that lube and that trunnion.

Do any AK receivers use threads to just screw the barrel on, or all they all press and pin?

I don't want to reinvent the wheel so could you tell me how many rungs would be ideal on that ladder?
@johndix18205 жыл бұрын
When and how do you adjust the headspace? I thought headspace was set & verified as barrel was pushed into the trunnion. If not, when and how is headspace set?

I need to press the barrel of a Chinese MAK-90 into the trunnion. Is there any reason why I shouldn't/can't just use a rubber mallet instead of a press?

What is the purpose of the t shape tool?
@johndix18205 жыл бұрын
Rafael Garcia I believe the T shaped tool is to distribute the pressure inside the receiver so it doesn’t flex or bend.
@noretreat1512 жыл бұрын
maybe to take rearward pressure off trunnion rivets and prevent contact of 1/2” bracing iron bar from chamber. IMHO

Sorry to hear about your troubles with you tube, pieces of shit. I’m having a problem with my Romanian PSL. After shooting 2rds the third round goes off prematurly. The back of the caseing splits, the dust cover blows off and the round gets stuck in the barrel. My gunsmith is not sure what’s is happening, he did say he wasn’t that knowlegable with PSL. Any ideas?
