I'm a mechanic, I have blackened fingernails more times then I can even remember. If you have ever had a bad one and had a hole put in the nail to relieve the pressure you know the relief I am talking about. You can't sleep because of the throbbing, you just touch it and tears in your eyes. A few minuets with a finger nail drill (or a red hot paper clip when medical aid is not available) and instant relief. I imagine the cows get the same relief once the pressure is taken off the hoof.
@AHunterInTheShadows3 ай бұрын
I can't exactly relate, but I've had my nails torn off multiple times... And I've had some areas of buildup from injuries that I've had to relieve cause there wasn't any other way to get it down. Eye, lips, feet and hands are usually were I've had these things happen (All were very painful, some moreso than others). So I do understand the pressure relief, just not with the nails. 🤔

Out of curiosity, Nate, how do you handle sterilization of your knife/grinder between cows, if it's even needed since you clean and treat the hoof after trimming? @@lze759 We do get germs all the time 😅. There's no getting around it unfortunately with so many animals and the environment. No matter how much you clean, you get dirty when in a place like that. Not like being in places where it's clean comparatively. Although I'm more disgusted with the dirty parts of city environments and would rather deal with animal poop. I've only ever got sick from visiting cities and not from the village I live in. And people visiting from the cities coming here freak out about how it gets dirty constantly every day no matter how much they sweep and clean(for those who insist on cleaning and find out for themselves)😅😅😅 Basically, if you can't handle getting dirty from animals and simply from the swamp and forest environment, it's really not the place for you.

The only time you'll see a cow feel pain from a trim is when the situation is really, really bad. Either massive inflammation of the corium, or far worse, necrotic tissue. So they're disturbing the painful tissue underneath the hoof. But its a bit of pain that'll lead to curing the problem. Like using rubbing alcohol on a wound
