Good to hear not only the good things with sponsorschips and teams. All looks so beautyfull from the "outside". But it seems to be hard work, a lot of driving, and things you HAVE to do even if you don't feel like it at that time. Bravo for telling us this.

Des, it was interesting to hear your match fishing journey from humble beginnings to the England team and you thoroughly deserve all the success that has gone with it. I just wanted to clarify something you said about Gary and I to give the listeners context. The match you are referring to was the 1995 Drennan Super League Final (7 teams of 10) fished over 2 days at Earlswood Lakes and Heyford Fishery in the Midlands. Day 1 was at Earlswood which at the time was a feeder job for bream and skimmers. Gary and I were selected to fish for Thatchers and both finished half way up our sections in 4th place. Day 2 saw the switch to Heyford, a carp dominated snake lake with the pole as the main line of attack. I was selected but Gary was not so he could not possibly have lost 20 carp by fishing too light! Like yourself and Mark Harper, I too won my section on the day, in my case fishing long pole across to the reeds with sweetcorn, hardly losing a fish and finishing 7th overall. At the time Gary and I had spent years fishing for carp on the Devon lakes you mentioned and were regular visitors to Whiteacres and Bolingey where we held our own against the best in the country. We also pride ourselves on being all rounders rather than just 'canal anglers' but of course appreciate your compliments. While I have taken a back seat from fishing for the time being, Gary has shown that fishing fine with light lines and small hooks where appropriate has been very successful. He has regularly won matches on all sorts of venues including commercials like Ivy House catching 100lb plus bags of F1's using a light approach. Something of a 'lost art' these days. Keep up the good work Des, you are a great ambassador for angling and Preston Innovations helping to put the West Country well and truly on the map. I forgot to say the Super League was won by Northern team, Octoplus Saints with Thatchers finishing 5th tying with Essex County on points but beating them on overall section wins (4 to 1). Team credit must go to Thatcher's captain Mark Harper who won his section on both days including the individual match win at Heyford. The rest as they say is history.

Des is an absolute legend and always seems like a genuine guy wanting to promote angling which is fantastic, your videos certainly help me which I greatly appreciate …… please keep it going. Interested in your takes of product development, worked in automotive industry for 30 years so we had all those issues you mentioned on steroids, ran Purchasing so very familiar with challenge of managing suppliers ! (but atm your general stock levels where I am are really poor). Give us some canal angling videos Des, would love to see that even though I don’t like fishing canals.

Great podcast Overshotted Rigs; I’ve won countless matches doing it but there’s no doubt about it, it has a lower skill ceiling than using a lash and float.
