Lyrics:
Now the reason we're here
As man and woman
Is to love each other
Take care of each other
When love walks in the room
Everybody stand up
Oh it's good, good, good
Like brigitte bardot
Now look at the people
In the streets, in the bars
We are all of us in the gutter
But some of us are looking at the stars
Look round the room
Life is unkind
We fall but we keep gettin' up
Over and over and over and over and over and over
Me and you, every night, every day
We'll be together always this way
Your eyes are blue like the heavens above
Talk to me darlin' with a message of love
Now the reason we're here
Every man, every woman
Is to help each other
Stand by each other
When love walks in the room
Everybody stand up
Oh it's good, good good
Say I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you
Talk to me darlin'

My husband got to see the original lineup. Unfortunately I was in h.s. for their original lineup, and they didn't play my area. I didn't want to see them live w/o James or Pete. I love Chrissie as an icon. I find her life frightening, and that's something for someone who's lived mine.

Pretenders' first two albums were a real moment in time for rock...just a stellar lineup. 1979-1981 was extremely exciting musically, so many great new wave, punk and power-pop bands emerging. It doesn’t get the notoriety that other more high profile deaths get, but James Honeyman Scott’s death was among the greatest tragedies to hit rock and roll. He is in a unique category along with guitarists like Randy Rhoads and Steve Gaines, of entirely gifted and talented young guitarists who were also very interesting and unique personalities that would have no doubt given us music that would be humming through our heads today on the regular. Iconic stuff. But they died entirely too soon. And so instead we are sadly, but gratefully, left with a small sample of their formative genius, and a big gaping hole that asks “what if?”, along with the near-certainty that it would have been incredible. RIP

Fantastic song...awesome video! This was an era when artists had a concept and professional execution of both...the music and the video!

LOVE these old videos being released again! THANK YOU CHRISSIE! I've been lucky in life to meet you (a few times) and I told you that you were my favorite person in the world (you said "ya right") and it seemed you didn't believe me..40 years later...you still are...

This song is the only one Chrissie didn't have finished so they jammed together to create the sound. They should have done this more as this is one of their best I think.

Chrissie's voice is so endlessly smooth & cool, and their music is all good. There's not a single bad Pretenders song. Such an underrated band I think, they deserve more attention. They're special, so special.

I simply LOVE this girl! She grew up in the exact same time period that I did...I just bought her auto- biography "RECKLESS" and could totally relate to everything she says in it...saw her back in the 80's at the Allentown Pa. Fairgrounds concert venue when she was "knocked up"(quite obvious!) and she said if she ever catches up with the guy that did that to her ...she was going to give him a big punch in the mouth!! what a "ballsy chick"....she was definitely1 "tomboy" at heart.....what a life she had......she WENT for her dreams...and realized them...she reminds me of Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane in many ways....(still can't believe that they both survived this long! lol)

I saw The Pretenders at the Riv in Chicago 1980. They were great and I’ve always loved them but the band definitely changed after Pete and James died. Very sad that such talented musicians left at such an early age. Chrissy is one tough woman. Still going after so many challenges. Love the music.

It was 1981-I was 19 years old and my David Bowie look alike boyfriend rode his motorcycle from California all the way to Tennessee to see me. He made a cassette tape for me and this was one of the songs. Oh the memories ❤❤❤❤😢😢😢
