I feel this is the only video I need on the matter. Absolute legend.

Great video! Huge help. Would love to see a specific tutorial for particle3D. Like "How to make different explosion particle 3D godot 4.3" or "How to make sparkles particles godot". Keep going

For anyone having trouble with the color map not changing the actual color or alpha of the particle see 5:15 (particle mesh material > vertex color > use as albedo)(i migh've missed this the first time watching and lost 30 minutes trying to fix it) Btw great tutorial. Easy to understand, straight to the point and with practical demostrations. I wish every tutorial/guide on yt would be as good as yours

Ahh, yeah it's always things like that that catch you, I am thinking in the future I might make like a little visual tip popup that comes up on little very important things like that, just to add extra emphasis. Regardless I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial, and thank you so much for such kind words~

@@Bonkahe Please do! I'm only just past the "hello world" shader stage :) A bit of sine wave here, a bit of noise texture * time there... set some transparencies.... I'd love to see how this Fire thing would be written with your extended knowledge. Any solutions for gdshader editor freezing/crashing so frequently. A real pain in the ass :( Ruining my will to experiment tbh.

You could submit this to the tutorials section of the GPUParticles page on the docs.

@Midrule8 ай бұрын
What kind of bugs are you having with trails? If it's just not working you need to turn on settings for both draw material and in process material to use them. It's really weird how many settings u need to turn on for it to work properly but that could be why
@Bonkahe8 ай бұрын
I did get it working with a couple asterisks, specifically around multiple particles, it seemingly loops through all of them, and I can't seem to find any solution to resolve this, it also seems to be pinned to the origin at one/both ends. Beyond that, seemingly changing the subdivision level on the ribbon or tube mesh to anything other than default just makes it disappear for me. Yeah, it's a bit janky, I need to explore it further, and for this video with some of the stuff going on right now irl, I just had to skip it xP
@Midrule8 ай бұрын
@@Bonkahe odd. I've been able to get it working completely fine but in my case it was very simple and i wasn't using multiple particles. Changing subdivision doesn't do that for me so strange indeed. I'm assuming you're using current 4.2.1. Yeah, if you do get a chance to fully explore that kind of thing would be nice for a follow up video

the display->scale does not work for me in godot 4.3. probably pressed a wrong button somewhere
@nowherebrain6 ай бұрын
how do you give particles infinite lifetime? persistent particles...I have the idea I want to use them to populate trees(leaves) but I need them persistent.for obvious reasons.
@Bonkahe6 ай бұрын
Hello, that sounds super cool, all you have to do to make them persistent is to set the speed scale to 0, this should lock them in place and make them just sit there. Hopefully that's helpful! if you have any problems let me know.
@nowherebrain6 ай бұрын
@@Bonkahe Yeah, seems the only thing that works(out of the box) is setting the speed scale to zero..but only while particles are emitting...could be finicky and one needs to mess with it, but it works.

Where did you get that 8x8 grid texture for the animation? Or is there a tutorial or something to make it yourself?
@Bonkahe9 ай бұрын
I did not make that one, it's from the Godot docs, you can find it in the display category here: docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/tutorials/3d/particles/process_material_properties.html#animation There's a little link to the left for the high res version, very handy! Have a wonderful week.

How's the sunshine clouds going?
@Bonkahe9 ай бұрын
Minor adjustments aside I've had it on the back burner while focusing on the terrain, likely whenever I get it in a workable state I'll revisit sunshine clouds and add some updates and things that I've learned to improve it. Admittedly both of them have been slow going with work and life being the way it is currently xP
