I wasn't too sure what kind of wood this is in the beginning but then it came to me. It has some nice features, revealed by just a little turning! Finished in shellac.

One of the things I find most delightful about people I know well is when they do or say something that is SO who they are, it makes me smile. Your repeated phrases give me that same, comfortable, easy feeling. It doesn’t matter that I know very little else about you. Those repeated phrases make you seem like an old friend. I have a few favorites (Commence to removing this tennon, Left hand on the switch right hand on the gouge, As soon as I get my mask on). Familiar is good. Then when you throw in “it’s sanding sealer, DUH,” I laugh out loud. If you change your presentation I’d miss those things, but you do you, and if you’re bored with yourself, we’ll adapt. 🥰 Thanks for your terrific content every week!

There is comfort in routine and tradition. Those of us who have watched you for a long time know that you will teach techniques, safety, and creativity as you turn your works of art, so that no matter who is watching, those good messages will be heard. What a shame if a new viewer didn't have a chance to understand the wood worm screw, or see the sand o flex smoothing bark, or watch the magical removal of the little nub. As a fellow named Mr Rogers always said, "I like you just the way you are". The bowl is beautiful! Thank you and Happy Birthday to Tuffy! Thank you Phil! 😊

PLEASE continue to talk us through what you are doing!! Sure, I've seen and heard it before, but reminding is always helpful. When I first started watching your videos, I was wintering in Yuma, Arizona, so I didn't have my wood lathe with me. So when I got home, I watched more and could go right to my lathe and practice! Also, there will be some new viewers, and they would need to listen, watch, and learn from you. We "older" viewers can still learn! A side note: I have discovered that with shellac, you can add an additional coat, and the shellac will fuse with the former coat, and not just add a new coat on top of the old. That's why you can keep your brushes for so long--the shellac just softens the old shellac on the brush, and it all blends together. And be assured that I do like the shape that you made. It is beautiful wood, and a beautiful bowl, as well!😊

Hey Phil, so glad that you eventually came 'round to liking this piece. It looked for a moment as if you were going to be sad and disappointed with something that is actually quite nice. :-). The slightly unusual color and the dark spots on the wood make it visually interesting. It will be interesting to read other people's comments about going over many of the same steps in each turning. To long-time viewers, the repetition might be dull, but to new viewers, the information could still be valuable. In any case, thank you for another fun video and thanks to Tuffy for sending the wood. P. S. The notion of celebrating your birthday by giving something to someone else, (as Tuffy seems to have done), sounds intriguing.

I too have to change my horse in the middle of the stream to get my results To begin with, it not looking like the results you were expecting and expressing how disappointed with the looks you were going for, all your changes worked, I would show it off to everyone the result was a beautiful bowl. I would always keep on explaing what you are doing and not should not bore anyone. We all need a reminder once in a while. Phil, i like all the others I never get tired of hearing your process because it’s always good and honest, and i think you were maybe forgetting the golden rule at the beginning, it is what it is and the wood will let you know what it wants to be, nature will find a way. Loving your work as always, my wood turning inspiration, thanks from the UK

Love the colour, and those dark features really made the piece. Carole (the lady who makes my life worth living) wasn’t sure about the bark around the time you started work on the inside, but at the end she really liked it.

Another neat piece Phil. The features in the grain really make it interesting and the bark really sets it off. I like hearing how you talk through your design choices -- glad this one turned out where you were satisfied with it after your initial concerns regarding how the shape was developing. Nothing wrong with repeating yourself in each video since you don't know who is new to your channel.

I LOVE the character in this piece of wood!! And the bark is unusually thick! I was a bit worried it might turn loose in a section and ruin the live edge appearance. As for hearing you describe what you do, the steps you take to create each piece, I dont mind it at all. Anybody that might be tired of it can just go hang! Its your channel, Phil, you do and say whatever you want!! Thanks for another gorgeous, unique piece of art!❤

Hi Phil, I think you find is called Pippi oak, I remember from years and years ago I was working doing subcontract work for a organ building company back in the UK, and we had to make the whole casement, And veneer panels were done in it, Great job, Phil, and I think you’re right it is better using a turning tone to remove the pip ha ha, then it is to use a hand chisel, as you cook quite easy not quite cut it properly and remove a dibit in the centre, Great work, another piece of work for your art collection,
