I like the change as well. It’s lovely. Now, I wouldn’t call it brown. To me, if you tube colors are true, it is some sort of dark ash blonde. Really nice! I turned medium blonde about 15 yrs ago, but do not bleach. I go every three or four months for root touch up and it seems to work for me. I also love the brush/blow out. So easy to dry and fast. I'll be 70 in March. About 12 years I turned total gray/silver. I stopped coloring my hair about then, just to see what I had & I haven't colored since. I did do a few low lights to give it some depth but have since stopped. My hairdresser said I didn't need them since I have different shades of gray/silver already. My grandmother had different shades of gray, I guess I inherited that gene. My mom never turned gray, she was blond until she passed.

When my grey's started coming in faster at 60, it started with a streak along the front edge- I called it my lily Munster streak. 😊 At this point, it's coming in all over, but my hair stylist refuses to dye it until we see what it does next. I can't wait until it's all silver,

I started going grey at 26 and colored by hair for years! I'm 72 and the best decision I ever made was to let my hair return to its normal state about 10 years ago. No more chemicals!!!! No more having to maintain the color every 5-6 weeks. There is so much freedom in letting it be what it is!!!! With you being so health conscious I find it interesting that you do color your hair. I can relate to just being done! My natural hair color in contrast is white and has been for a while (since my 50's - I am now 63) . I really wasn't ready to go natural until I was spending time and $$$ getting my roots done every 3 weeks! My stylist/counselor guided me through the growing out process by adding foils and a lot of encouragement. In November, I cut the bob and went pixie!! I am liberated!!! I've had to invest in a couple of turtlenecks. Hello winter in New England, post menopausal hot flash! I'm in the middle of the same kind of transition with my hair for the very same reasons, in addition to the fact that my hair started breaking off! I'm in between right now, trying to figure out where to go next, as a steel gray is growing into all this brassy/bleached hair. As you can imagine, it's a nuisance, & I'm trying to decide what's best "next." P.S. My hair used to be pure white at the crown (for over 20 years!), but after 2 years of being committed to healthier eating program, it is now growing in a dark steel gray. Amazing! I totally understand! I have dark brown hair that I've highlighted several different ways. Even went platinum blonde for a while. Loved that!! But now at 74, I'm getting tired of it and have decided to grow out my natural salt and pepper. I too don't have a lot of gray, but I want to see what it looks like. I wear my hair short, so a few hair cuts should do it! Follow your heart!

I went through the same process 3 weeks ago for the exact same reasons. At first I thought it was too stark. 3 weeks later, the blonde is peeking through and softens the look. I absolutely love it now. I do need to get the roots done every 3 weeks, but it’s fast and easy.

I am 71 and grew up with light brown hair. I colored it blonde in junior high and high school and then went back to my regular color when I went to college. When I got out of the navy, I went back to the blonde and have never looked back. Depending on my age, and thus rhe hue of my skin, I have graduated from golden blonde to Ash blonde back to golden blonde, now that my skin is relatively white. When I first get my color done, it is darker, but after a couple of washings, it is the desired color. I have my touchups every seven weeks, which works out very good. A lot of my friends my age are going to their gray and white hair. My hair would be white without coloring it. I enjoy my blonde hair and don’t have any plans to go natural at this juncture. I like the brown color. Brings out your eyes and brows. Also I think the warm tone brings out your skin color and you don't look washed out like an ash tone might do. You can mix both cool and warm highlights for a glamorous look.

I too have natural dark blonde hair to which I have added bleach foil highlights for years and years. I also have very little grey as have most all the women in my family. In talking with my niece/hairdresser, I’ve decided to stop using bleach for the health of my hair. I don’t mind the maintenance and have not experienced the issues you described with purple shampoo, though a few times I’ve left it on too long and had a slight purple tinge (which I really don’t mind). My appointment is Thursday and it will begin the transition away from bleach. I’m a bit nervous, I really like my blonde hair color but we are going to try some non-bleach blonde colors and see what I like. I’ll be honest, while your hair looks very nice, I do prefer the bleach blonde on you.

Hi Kimberly! Your hair always looks great no matter the color! I too had the same idea as you (I’m 60) and went brown from blonde for lower maintenance and ended up switching back, doing just a partial set of foils in blonde and let parts of my gray stay to give the blonde dimension. I only have to get it done every 10-12 wks and it’s short as well, the blonde just makes my face smile and eyes brighter I think, esp as I age. But you look great either way!

I agree about the pretty silver grey. I have hardly any grey and I'll be 70 in April. I've never dyed my hair although I sure thought about it at one point when I was about 40 because my hair changed color from its original dirty dishwater blond to light brown. During that interim, the color looked real flat. But it's better now so I still don't color it. When you first blew your hair dry, I thought you were done and I was so jealous! But then I saw that you have to do quite a bit more. Too bad! That would be so nice to be done in about 3 minutes! I like the new color. I liked the old one too. But I think you might be right to have the less warm color for the next one. Hugs!

I went to my natural gray about eight years ago. The initial silver was beautiful and I got so many compliments on my hair color. Over time it has turned even lighter but I battle with the yellowing. I’ve tried everything. I am retired now and I don’t wash my hair every day anymore. My hair is much healthier (from watching the Blowout Professor on YT). My question, Kimberly, is how often do you wash your hair. I loved your tips on styling but I fear that I may have to wash my hair more often from using the hair spray.

I have always noticed how your natural color in the root area seemed to have no gray, which is quite unusual for gals our age.You will love the lower maintenance. I can say from my previous experience that the color that has been added over the blonde will lift quite quickly since it has been previously bleached, and that will give you natural highlights/balayage look. I’m 60 and stopped coloring my hair about 3-4 years ago. After 40 years of coloring it red, I was done with the expense. Covid helped that decision because it was hard to get in to get it colored. I haven’t looked back and love my natural ash brown with lots of silver highlights! Love this color on you. I think the blonde washes people out.
