This is so important, and so many industries depend on our being in the dark! I am SO BEYOND GRATEFUL for every physician who breaks out of the "system" and gets him/herself informed about the facts! Having been medicated for many years with high blood pressure, and dealt with high cholesterol & pre-diabetes, a chance viewing of Forks Over Knives rocked me enough that I made the changes they prescribed...and inside 90 days had MUCH better blood pressure without meds than I ever had with them, dropped my cholesterol from 268 to 132, and got totally off the diabetes spectrum! These plants WORK! And best part, unlike all those medication ads that say "results not typical," moving to a whole food plant based way of eating gives results that ARE typical!!!! And I've met hundreds of people over the past several years who had experienced exactly the same thing! GO DOC! You're onto something here!!!!!

My husband's cholesterol was 230 last year , before we switched to whole food plant based way of eating. He was always very active physical and wasn't a big meat eater, but he loved his cheese. He had SVT , HTN ,migraines , chronic back pain , could run as he used to any more . After only 4 month of about 80% wfpb his cholesterol dropped to 180, headaches gone. After a year not a single SVT episode, cholesterol 143, BP 110/60, HR-55 , no more pack pain and he can now play soccer much longer and without any shortness of breath . As a bonus he also lost 35lb,but just to make it clear, even 20 year ago when he was in the same weight as now he had all those heart issues and always had high cholesterol since his 20th, so all those changes aren't due to weight loss (for those who will argue that losing weight alone will do it) WFPB is the only way to go for longer healthier life. Incorporating intermitting fasting sometimes can also promote healing. Thank you Dr.Lome for you video!

Just came across your channel from a posting on Facebook and have subscribed. I am distraught over my blood test results. Two years ago I dropped my total cholesterol from 229 to 180 along with the triglycerides and LDL. I was excited to get my results last week with a goal of 150. Well it's now 202 with high triglyceride and LDL's! What the heck?!! How is this even possible? I just can't get my head around these results. I'm not a junk food vegan, but I do enjoy desserts on the weekend. I would love a video about this situation.

@@DrStevenLome What do you think about not dropping your cholesterol too low because of the increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke? Dr Fuhrman said it is the salt, but the latest study controlled for hypertension. I keep my total cholesterol around 150 to protect against both the ischemic and hemorrhagic forms of a stroke. www.nytimes.com/2019/04/10/well/live/very-low-cholesterol-may-increase-stroke-risk.html www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3299064/

James Shakour The overall balance of evidence does not suggest there is any harm with cholesterol being too low in healthy individuals or heart disease patients which is the consensus of the ACC/AHA. The study you cited is not robust enough to make firm conclusions for many reasons. The LDL was 114 in intracranial hemorrhage patients which is still significantly higher that we would prefer which is < 70. The #1 risk factor for ICH is hypertension. Especially if your blood pressure is normal there is no concern about ICH with low LDL. The study was case controlled which is not ideal for many reasons. Certainly hypothesis raising but nowhere near conclusive. Your body will make the right amount of cholesterol for you...keep it as low as you can via diet to prevent cardiovascular disease.

This is great stuff, is it possible to post links to the studies you referenced, especially the primary prevention ones that specify mortality risk percentage for those with heart disease and those without? I'd never seen some of those before and would love a reference. I have CVD and have been on the Esselstyn program for almost two years, and am very interested in nutrition and mechanisms for disease. I did have a couple of other questions, but I'll post them as separate comments.

Thank you so much, you explain this so well. I am a nurse practitioner and currently my focus is in diabetes management and chronic disease management as well and one of my biggest struggle is learning how to explain the plant-based diet to patients because some patients get offended some patients get upset with me because they feel like they're never going to eat meat again and which they do and they think I'm crazy and I'm like bringing these like making up these theories and so it's really difficult I've been really hard these past three weeks at work trying to increase Awareness on the benefits of the plant-based Whole Foods diet

This video provides compelling evidence why eating whole plant-based food affords wide-ranging heart healthy rewards. Dr. Lome states why body inflammation, triggered by a Standard American Diet (SAD), paves the way to heart disease and the leading cause of death in America for 100 years. What equally powerful is his passion for lifestyle medicine to help others take control of their health by changing what they put in their mouths every day! Thank you, Dr. Lome!

So I'm personally convinced that eating meat is bad for us, but I often hear the complaint that plant-based folks are wrongly obsessed with dietary cholesterol and that because most cholesterol is produced in the liver, that we shouldn't care about the stuff in the diet. So my question is, understanding that we don't NEED it, if there were some plant food that had it, would it really matter? Or is it simply the fact that it almost always comes with other bad stuff like saturated fat choline/carnitine, arachidonic acid, etc. that makes it mad by association? Have they shown that the plaque in arteries is actually directly coming from the food? I understand that lipid metabolism is very different from protein metabolism, and that while protein is broken down to the amino acid level and then our body reconstructs our own protein with it, we tend to use lipids directly in fat tissue rather than having to break it down first. Is it well understood how dietary cholesterol is used in this way?
@dvdmon5 жыл бұрын
Another question is around this setting of the upper level of trans fats, saturated fats, and cholesterol by the IOM. Apparently anything above 0%, but plant foods do have some saturated fat in them, not just oils. According to Cronometer, about 1.3% of the calories of chickpeas come from saturated fat, for adamame it's 4.6% and for oatmeal it's 2.6%. So I guess what I'm wondering when they say 0%, are they talking about 0% from ADDED fats, or just fat that's part of every food, animal or plant? And is 0% really 0%, because obviously that would be impossible given the natural saturated fat in everything if even in very small amounts. Maybe this is nitpicking, but I believe in explaining things both to others and to myself in as detailed a way as possible, so when I come across something that isn't very clear given the facts, I don't want to assume I know what the recommendation is without actually asking more pointed questions. Thanks!
