Great information Nate. I did a Fall app of the Dithiopyr but didn't follow up with a Spring app and paid the price. I thought because the lawn was thick and didn't see any weeds from November to the following May I thought I was in the clear. Boy was I wrong come Summer time. For now on its back to prevention.

I completely agree. That's my plan going forward. I may overseed next fall but I may skip another year.

Hey I am confused because you mentioned soil temperatures of 70 degree for fall application but the label of prodiamine (granular) mentions "apply this product in the fall after the soil temperature is below 50F". Where did you get that 70 degree soil temperature for fall? Thanks.

Well i screwed up this year, i didnt get my pre emergent down soon enough and ended up with a few 4ftx8ft Poa Annua patches in my beautiful lawn so I sprayed with Tenacity and now I have a few 4ftx8ft dead spots in my beautiful lawn.. When I say dead spots, I mean there is nothing there now but dirt and dead Poa Annua..

Very helpful, thank you! So it seems feasible to get a late summer TTTF overseed down to fill in poa annua dead spots…then after a couple cuts of the new grass, start the preemergent and continue it into spring. Again, thank you 👍

Timing is important. Poa Annua starts yo germinate as the soil temperatures drop below 70*. Use something like GreenCast online to monitor that.

Great stuff Nate. I’m over-seeding this week so I’ll be applying Prodiamine a little late. But like you said, it’s better than not putting anything down. Appreciate you.

First year for me throwing down a pre emergent. I like to overseed so I developed a cycle to help combat the poa annua here in the PNW. I decided I would topdress/level/overseed in the spring and use pre emergent in the fall to stop the poa. I’m right there with you I hate the stuff!! Good luck I’m interested in your video on how you are going to take care of what you have now.

It'll be interesting to see how that works for ya. Spring is definitely a time you want to use a pre emergent and seed in the fall.

@@PacificNorthwestLawns me too I have to overseed bc my lawn gets a good amount of shade so I use fescue and rye mix to help it but it always looses some of its gains in the winter so it’s always in need of an overseed. It’s quite a predicament I’m in lol. My goal is to keep the poa annua at bay which is very prominent in my area. I guess I will see

Definitely putting down prodiamine in a couple portions of my lawn. Would highly suggest a tank mix of tenacity + PoaConstrictor if anyone has a serious Poa issue. I am doing 2 applications here in the fall (just did my first). I missed the fall application last year and only did spring. 2 modes of action is definitely an added benefit and can be done in conjunction with seeding project here in PNW, just wait two weeks after PoaConstrictor application. Excited to see your results in spring

@@whereisthedollar yup I know. Not talking about trivialis, Referencing Poa Annua. Also, I’m using this tank mix of tenacity & ethofumesate for both post-emergent and pre-emergent going into spring. Will require an application in the spring as well. Have several university studies that show the efficacy of using these two together on poa annua

@PacificNorthwestLawns
@PacificNorthwestLawns 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. Are far has how finicky lawn temps are to applications that really depends on what you're applying. As far as the Prodiamine or Dithiopyr just watch your soil temperatures on Greencast. Once they're consistently around 70*, have at it.

I have more poa this fall than ever before. I did a prodimine app right at 70 degrees but the poa was already starting to grow. Is the fall app supposed to be preventing that batch of poa or block the seeds next spring from germinating from this current batch of poa?

I want to Dethatch and overseed, but usually use scott's halts crabgrass preventor for the pre emergent effects only, now idk what should do? I won't be Dethatching for a few weeks ??

Well that entirely depends on when you applied the Scott's stuff, how much you applied and how long it lasts. I personally don't use that stuff so I don't know it's lasting effects. Hopefully you wrote down or remember when and how much you applied.

Does your poa actually die off or more like a semi-perennial? In PNW seems more like the latter (I'm in Kirkland). Trying tenacity and dethatching prior to seeding, and I will add WDG prodiamine at 30 days to help out for next year too
