I've seemed to get a handle on the Poa on my home lawn and my baseball field with consistent applications of PGR. I still see the Poa "color" but as many seed heads as in normal years. It could also be that I mow and just about an inch. I love that you show the "realness" of lawn care. Not all is perfect. I feel like a lot of lawn you tubers only show the perfect stuff, when in reality that is never the case. I will be there on the 13th!!!!

Great thing for a KZbinr, more content. Thanks for being transparent. I've seen so many KZbinrs show that a full reno will create a perfect return. That just isn't the case. Conner is dealing with the same. He is torching his lawn, is that to kill off the seeds? I hope it works out for you but I don't think it'll be any different. I think our weather is perfect for POA growth. Good luck, I hope it's enough. My Reno to remove the POA was getting a sod cutter and bringing in new soil. I also seeded early. POA was still here, but much easier to pull out, less widespread.
@PacificNorthwestLawns
@PacificNorthwestLawns 2 жыл бұрын
I seen what Connor has be up to. He's had the same issue for a while now. I think he's burning his lawn just to help get the debris cleared up. I doubt it's gonna help much with seed that's already in the soil.

I'm in western WA too and have kind of resigned myself to just having Poa in my grass. We bought our last house brand spankin' new with a beautiful sod lawn installed. For several years I kept it beautiful, but Poa eventually gained a solid foothold despite my best efforts to extract it by hand. I'm convinced that you either have to fight it non-stop with pre-emergent and selective post-emergent treatments, constantly pull it out, or just accept it and try to live with it. We've moved and our back lawn has just about every kind of grass you can imagine. It's a moderate disaster, complete with uneven collapsed mole tunnels. I picked up some Q4 Plus and am going to hit it with that first and see what remains. Then I'll level it with the germinated soil/sand/seed mix. It might be a while before this lawn looks good.

Wanna post that schedule for PNW that you got from forum. I was able to do 2 applications last fall (Aug 8 & Aug 27) and then did one in spring on day of no rain. Have been very surprised how successful it’s worked. I’ve only had two patches come up in 5000 sq ft lawn this year that I just hand pulled. With our super mild spring this year it’s not a surprise. I'm in northeast ohio just west of Cleveland and on the lake. I think like you, our summer heat isn't hot enough to kill off the poa annua. the poa annua pressure in the spring and even right now is high. DoyourOwn recommends a PGR to control poa along with pre-emergents. Paul at Prime Cuts has good luck with Anuew PGR at full strength impacting Poa annua and triv.... my game plan is preemergent fall and spring...areas that need seed I'll use Scotts starter w mesotrione. next spring ill use Anuew full strength to see if it smokes the poa as Paul claims.

Hey Nate, man that's a lot of poa, I had hopes that the poa constrictor would work for you, it doesn't seem like it even made a dent unfortunately. If you do start over, I know some people over here who had issues with poa, they used a sod cutter to renovate their lawns. That way they got rid of all those dormant seeds from the poa. Killing it off with roundup wasn't working, as soon as they seeded the new lawn, the poa was there instantly, so taking away the top layer of the lawn entirely and starting over with fresh new soil without weeds seems to do the trick. Just a thought. Following along and keeping my fingers crossed whichever route you take mate.

I actually am going to glyphosate it this week and continue to up until I reseed it in late August. I don't expect it will solve the issue 100% but if I can minimize the Poa Annua as much as possible now, it'll be that much easier to manage later.

You didn't plant poa seeds. The stuff is in every yard here in Clark Co. The process of seeding or overseeding just helps dormant seeds germinate. You can just let it go like 99% of the homeowners around here. Golf courses primarily use it on greens mowed at a fraction of an inch. It's not the same as most homeowners.

Nvent, I live in Snohomish County (similar climate to Clark County). Two years ago I had lots of poa, both annua and trivialis. I treated with a blanket spray of tenacity (I know Nate is not a fan) and spot treated with glyphosate. Overseeding in the spring and fall. Now, at the beginning of this third season I don't see any annua (yet) and only two small patches of triv. I will treat with blanket spray with tenacity, spot spray with glyphosate and overseed in May. Every year it looks a little better. This program does not allow for use of a real preemergent because I am overseeding in the Spring AND Fall.

I wouldn’t kill it and re-seed because you will have a massive amount of poa annua seed still in your dirt. If you do maybe kill off, scalp, water for two weeks, kill off again. I have been able to kill poa annua selectively with T-zone which is off label. In the late spring, water your lawn real well, to make sure the desirable grass is healthy Ann’s stress free, wait for a cool evening and put T-zone with a non ionic surfactant (even though the label says other wise) in a tank mix with the poa constrictor. That combined with the warmer weather will knock it out in 1-2 apps. Try it now in the fall, what do you have to lose?
