Thanks for the very informative video! Aside from corrosion issues (which may be addressed also through material selection), are there other issues arising from understripping and having the "wrong" temperature profile in the regenerator? For example issues in controllability?

Zephaniah, yes you can have several problems due to understripping besides corrosion. The first is that if you leave too much CO2 in the lean amine, you may not be able to achieve the desired CO2 specification in the treated gas from the absorber. Second, is if you do not strip CO2 from the lean, you also may not be stripping foam-promoting contaminants such as hydrocarbons. You now have a lean stream high in CO2 and foaming tendency - again, it will not work very well in the absorber.

@@benspooner8690 Thank you Ben! Regarding your first point, if there is understripping, then the lean loading will be relatively high. So at the same CO2 capture or recovery rate, the lean amine circulation rate needed will be higher compared to the case of no understripping. But it will still work (corrosion and foaming considerations aside), though not at optimum condition, right?

@@zephaniahmicahesguerra7918 maybe to a certain degree. But as the lean loading climbs, you'll reach a point where it doesn't matter how much poor-quality amine you circulate it still won't work. This question is best answered by simulating the system, because the tower internals and amine temperature also need to be factored in!

Thank you for all those information. It's so beneficial for me but one more question I have a problem to choose the mixed amine solution for a sweetening natural gas unit (note that the natural gas of my project didn't content hydrogen sulfide, It is contented only carbon dioxide). I know that I should choose the amine solution by the composition, Corrosion in CO2, but I can't choose the best amine solution to obtain the best performance any help thank you

Thanks for nice video. In refinery, how to prevent CO2 corrosion in regenerator? It is set not to lower steam/amine ratio under 120kg/m3 for preventing CO2 corrosion in my company. Is it proper approach?

yes that is an excellent approach. If all CO2 can be removed from the amine before it reaches the bottom of the regenerator, there will be no CO2 corrosion. Please watch another of our KZbin videos on "how to determine steam flow to a reboiler" for more details.

usually carbon steel, but increasingly we are seeing 305 stainless steel used, especially in rich amine piping!
