Jackson Bostwick was awesome. He actually wore the cape correctly (it was a shoulder cape, not a simple drop cape like Superman's). Yeah, Filmation. God, the memories from Saturday mornings. The studio was notoriously thrifty, but the animation and the foley on that thunderbolt. Good times. Good times. 👍

For those of you criticizing, consider that this was 1974. Back then kid show producers were under a lot of pressure to keep violence on their shows "toned down". Add to that, the budgets for special fx and flashy sequences were pitifully low. So the studios had to work with what they had. It would be the 1990s before we started seeing more "comic book like" action on DC super hero shows, like Superman TAS, Batman TAS, Justice League and JLU. But to be fair, the main cast of this show took it seriously and delivered good performances. Jackson Bostwick (Captain Marvel) made a special effort to portray the hero in a realistic manner that wasn't "corny" and that kids would look up to as a positive role model.

@@ACLTony unfortunately, it's the new movie that introduced me to Shazam 😭😭😭 growing up he wasn't popular like batman and superman in my country (comics weren't and never really became a thing here too). I hated the new movie. I almost thought they invented him just for the movie but upon further research I found out he already exists (fyi, it took a few years to realize this). I agree with you. It really isn't fair what they do these days with the scripts and everything 🤦🏾‍♂️

Ah.. come on people , for the ones who are criticizing this tv show . Shazam was a young person show to begin with , more important the message was to teach you right , from wrong , good vs evil , etc... it was not design to impress with special effects, and computer generated images , as today shows are .

For a lot of those that calling these shows garbage, obviously most of ya'l weren't even born back then. Majority of these shows didn't have special graphic effects like they do nowadays. They did what they could back then with what they had. One thing is for sure majority of the super hero movies and shows compared to now and back then, back then they actually had story lines compared to the ones now. Ones out now majority of them are just action and action, no real story lines.
@222leeloo

+damavsman yeah, i don't know if i'm just bias because i grew up with them, but those hero shows from the past seemed to have a lot of heart--the effects were good enough. The films & shows of today put too much emphasis on the effects to the detriment of the story.
