Ashton’s dynamic with Laudna is so interesting. Laudna had no say in her first death, she was tricked and betrayed, and she woke up alone, looking like a monster. She was alone for so long, but somehow she has found people who love her, she’s found her own piece of happiness, she’s turned out relatively ok. So if Laudna can go through all of that, and still be a good, happy person, then there must be something wrong with Ashton, from his perspective. But they don’t want to admit that, so they want to poke and pick and claw until he finds something wrong with Laudna, so he can say “Look! It isn’t just me! Life truly is just horrible, and we’re all miserable!” “You can’t be as unlucky as me, and still be this happy, because if that’s true, then that means there’s something wrong with *me,* something *I* need to fix. Ands that’s not right, because that means all this time I’ve spent miserable, angry, and alone has been for nothing.”

To a certain point - yes. But then I feel like Ashton does have a fairly easy explanation - he wasn't really dealt the same hand. They both died and it sucked, sure, but Laudna is just a little cold to touch. He is falling apart ever since. For her there was a fresh start, even though she wasn't accepted by society. He was, but his physical life is just shit ever since then. So it wasn't for nothing, or rather, it does have a clear cause.

@@trzynasty909 Plus there’s a difference between waking up alone because everyone else is dead and waking up alone because your “family” decided you weren’t worth it. Not saying one’s more or less traumatic than the other, just that there’s a distinction here that’s shaped their worldviews.

@@allylavender3023 That's a good point. On some level, I think Ashton's trauma would fuck with one's ability to trust others or care about themselves a lot more than Laudna's trauma. Laudna experienced something truly horrible at the hands of a monster, but she knows that most people are okay and trying their best. But Ashton wasn't just left alone - they were abandoned. Repeatedly. That does some shit to people's heads.

Only if it's set after this C3 stuff and there's real risk involved, otherwise I'm a little meh on all of the flash back mini series ideas. New evil wizard, new danger, new fight? Heck yeah! Flashback to Balthazar or whoever where we already know they win because they show up here in C3, meh, no thanks. (I'm totally fine with a book/ comic exploring that storyline, that sounds great, but a toothless one shot doesn't appeal imho).

I miss the old fan art intermissions with hundreds of pieces of art over 10-15 minutes. I would actually sit and relax while watching the whole section. My gal is a professional artist, and I am not. I would sometimes see a piece of art that I liked, but couldn’t articulate why, and vice versa. I would pause it, show it to her, and she would be able to describe both the technical and interpretive aspects of the piece to explain to me what made me like or dislike it. I hope, someday they bring back the long, each week being different, art intermissions.

As someone that suffers from Chronic migraines, I relate to taliesin/ashton so much. I had no idea that Dani also suffered from Chronic illness, but hearing Dani talking about dealing with people when all you want to do is sleep or scream or throw up or Taliesin talking about Ashton dealing with his Chronic pain and anger issues by drinking enough to pass out at night both hit me really hard. Thankfully, I have a good enough support structure that I don't need to abuse pills or alcohol to survive, but I can easily see how someone in my/our position would do that. Thank you Taliesin for putting so much work into your characters to make them relatable and putting so much of yourself into them even though it must be difficult.

@@loTonks What sucks about relationships is that if you keep people at arm's length, this is what happens (personal experience). Most people won't work to connect with you, which proves you right that no one cares and you shouldn't even try, so.... It sucks that FCG tried to contact Orym because "he has a good head on his shoulders." It sucks that the person who is closest to Ashton (even with all the time FCG has spent with them) is Orym, but Ashton wouldn't know they didn't try to contact him, so maybe it's better that someone he's already comfortable with is there for the initial shock of separation. 🤷🏽?

@@TheQwuilleran I think Ashton's take on FCG is incredibly spot on. FCG thinks he does things selflessly and for good reasons but he has no clue what his actions really say. Not being able to feel emotions is really making FCG unintentionally a bit two-faced. Not only does he not think to contact his best friend, but he fails to think what Ashton would be going through at the same time as them. Hearing FCG could have been calming for Ashton. Sam is playing a fantastically complex robot while also showing the simple archetype of "the robot who can't feel and only operates on logic."

Seeing Ashton and hearing Taliesin talk about him hits really deep. This campaign started almost exactly a year after I had brain surgery to save my life. I had to have part of my skull and brain removed and as a result I have permanent nerve damage, I have tremors, and I struggle to walk and stand for extended periods of time. I'm very limited in what I can do now, and I live with pretty severe chronic pain. I am a completely different person now, and I can very much relate to the toxic, abusive, angry side that Ashton has. It's take a lot of work and therapy to get out of that, but I'm still in pain. What happened to me still defines what I'm able to do every day. It's changed how I view the world and others.

Ashton I'd say would be Anarky, but with Bane's powers on top (which now that I think about it is basically Bane from Dark Knight Rises.) Laudna I think would be more of a Scarecrow but like if Scarecrow got a Black Lantern ring. Imogen I'd personally peg as more a Talia al Ghul type due to her massive parental issues coupled with her drive, her difficulty opening up to people, and her headstrong personality. At 1:35:19 in the VOD on twitch Aabria (Who's Quiddie in the chat) wrote this comment about what she'd say to Ashton: "Like, the game isn’t to play Traumolypmics with Ashton - it’s to tell him kindly and with absolutely certainty, life is hard. And here’s what happens if you stop. So why don’t you?" Which I've been thinking about a lot. And honestly, Part of me hopes it happens and part of me doesn't. Because I think it will be interesting but I don't think it will have the affect she intends. My first thought when she said it was that he would genuinely, with her description of the afterlife and how restful it was, think, "Yeah, why don't I stop? Why am I still here?" I think Deanna could easily plunge Ashton into a vague suicidal ideation accidentally while trying to pull the whole, "Life is hard for everyone, chin up, there's stuff to live for" routine. (FIY this is a bad approach to pull with chronically ill people, and it makes your face look infinitely more punchable.) Think about it. Her Description of the afterlife was incredibly appealing (And a storyline straight out of BtVS but that's another story). Ashton's clearly hanging on out of spite, stubbornness, momentum, and sheer willpower more than anything else. Imagine him really examining the reasons why he's still here and coming to the conclusion that there aren't really that many good ones. Maybe sticking around to take care of FCG, but They have the rest of the group to look after them now. Maybe trying to figure out what happened to his parents? But he watched them die so really what's learning more going to change, and he can find out everything he wants to know on the other side anyway. etc.

That whole chronic pain portion hits too hard. I have chronic migraines as well as a form of eye allergy that causes me to develop blisters on the inside of my eyelids. So, imagine rubbing your knuckles together roughly, that's what my eyes feel like every time I blink, look around, ect. When tal said the whole other people's perspective of "they're an asshole, oh wait I understand now, I wouldn't want to deal with people if I dealt with that too." I used to feel that C1 Percy was my representative when I was going through depression, and I eventually recovered from that, mostly. When I was depressed, instead of being sad all the time, I completely and utterly suppressed my emotions. Just a tip, don't do that. Its not like bottling them. Not feeling those emotions severely affected my empathy and relationships. I eventually got to the point where I was nearly on the level of a sociopath. A Critical Role episode is the one moment where I could feel my emotions push through enough for me to get past that mental block I had mad over 2 years. Its been 2 years since then. It took a little over a year to re find my ability to feel empathy properly and remember which emotions felt which way. I'm 18 now. All the chronic pain was also happening, and my severe anger issues never left. One good thing I got from the lack of emotions was self control. I can choose if I'm purely logical or if I want to feel the emotional aspects. Most people can't fully separate their logic from their emotions. One of the arguably bad parts about it that hasn't gone away, the time in which I would have explored and discovered my sexual and romantic interests, around 15 & 16 yo, is when I was in that lack of emotional state. Nowadays, I'm asexual even after regaining my emotions. I have a very mild interest in a romantic situation, but absolutely no sex drive. Its one of the weirdest things when you're body still has the hormonal response to people but it is only on the level of your body, it doesn't influence your thoughts. So, caduceus and molly heavily helped me on the path of self discovery and understanding, which likely isn't healthy but fuck it, it worked out ok. Now, I'm at that Ashton/ old Percy point. I have it all back, but I still have far too much to figure out at once and I'm still coming to terms with how to interact and interpret people. Trust matters more than anything to me, and I have trust issues, which I feel the same from Percy and Ashton. Somehow, for some reason, Taliesin seems to have made characters that perfectly followed and supported my growth as a person. Do I have a likely unhealthy connection with cr, probably. Do I care, no. Y'all have a good day

On Tuesday, Taliesin said that FCG insists on endangering the party by running headfirst into danger and obligating them to follow. On Thursday, FCG ran headfirst into danger and obligated the party to follow.

The descent into Aeor was one of the most immersive moments for me too. I still imagine the ice caverns, and the intuits going off

Love it when Ashley is the tavern keeper for these episodes. No rhyme or reason, chaos supreme!! Just love it she has no qualms about pulling from the Tower. Pure berserker energy by the way. Fearne and Yasha projected!

I felt so...idk what to call it nostalgic? When the cast was talking about their memories of what scene grounded them in the world of Exandria. It was so romantic in a way that it made me feel so warm and fuzzy... 🥰

It feels so nice for Taliesin to talk about chronic pain. As a person suffering from continuing pain and dislocation of joints, it is really nice to hear someone talk about it ❤

YES I've been thinking that about FCG from the start, Taliesin put it so perfectly here, about how self-serving that little robot actually is in their attempt to help others. he feels like such a great representation of the kind of person who is almost arrogant in their way of helping, thinking they know best, well-meaning but also so selfish in their motivations

Oh god, I just realised that all the impulse control is in one party, Orym, Laudna and Ashton, and all the chaos gremlin people are in the other party

When the barbarian is a voice of restraint in your party, that's a red flag. Whenever he leaves they end up making a porno.
