In the Netherlands, Geely family products are already very popular, so Zeekr will sell well. There’s at least one on every street near my home in The Hague (Lynk & Co 01 (PHEV), Volvos, and/or the occasional Polestar. Many Europeans are getting less scared of Chinese products because American sanctions, spying and war escalations globally are now seen as a bigger threat to EU prosperity and world stability than most of what China does.

Thank you for your video Sam. And about the range of Zeekr 001 I want to add more details. The 1300hp EV is Zeekr 001 FR, which is priced at CN￥769,000 in China, and it's CLTC range is 550km. And there is an Zeekr 001, who has 268hp in single motor config and is priced at CN￥269,000 in China, and it's CLTC range is 740km. The battery can be upgraded (at cost of CN￥100,000) to improve its CLTC to over 1000km.

I have to agree, they were wise enough to have it designed in Europe. The chief designer is German and used to design Audi, Mercedes and Bentley. My only issue is that it's Chinese controlled cameras and microphones on wheels.

Sam, you keep claiming S plaid is faster. FYI the 1.99s Tesla claims is for 0-60 not 0-100, and is with rollout subtracted. The real time 0-100 for S plaid is between 2.5-2.6s. The FR was designed to beat S plaid. I'm sure Zeekr's engineer would make sure that before publish it. Though I was still a little disappointed, they could use a smaller battery pack, remove the power door, ventilated seats and some other useless luxury features. These would easily reduce weight by 100-150kg and makes the 0-60 in 1.8s.

Saw videos of serious accidents involving a large truck fully loaded with bricks colliding at high speed, tilting and landing on the roof of the zeekr 001, and the 001 held up well and the driver walked away without a scratch. Super impressive build quality. Pretty sure they got a few tricks from Volvo.

Also, the CT5-V that starts at $50K has a 3L TT V6, and that's not the one that gets up to 205 mph. It's the Blackwing with the V8 that gets up to that speed, and starts at $93K.

MSP is 0-60 mph in 1.99 seconds or 0-62 mph in 2.11 seconds both with the 1 foot rollout subtracted. If the Zeekr is 0-62 in 2.07 without subtracting the 1 foot, it would be WAY faster than the MSP which is about 2.35 0-62 if you don't subtract the 1 foot.

Re: carbon fiber roof on the Zeekr, yes the difference may only be 4kg but it's 4kg where you want it the least, right on top of the car. I'm not saying this makes it worth the cost, that question still remains, but it's certainly a factor to consider from an engineering viewpoint.

What about comfort? Most EV i have driven has poor isolation of the wheel housings. Lots of noise from road and noise. Specially on the Model 3 and Y. ID4 and Skoda Enyaq was a positive experience here, but when comes a really quite EV?

Cool car! I'm getting more and more interested in EVs becoming mainstream. These cars make EVs cooler in people's minds, but I'm probably more interested in a "perfect" $25k, $20k, or even $15k EVs with procution rates in the millions - *that* would blow my mind and get me very excited. (and by "perfect" I mean that it would meet the wants and expectations, not just needs, of a huge segment of the market).

It's great to see that Tesla has competitors these days. Who are those competitors? And, which companies are making substantial progress with their EVs from year to year? The list is short: BYD, GAC, Geely and Hyundai/Kia. And, SAIC and Changan should probably get honourable mentions. Mercedes-Benz is just about there but it is held back by its unwillingness to give up the damaging market segmentation game played by all Legacy Auto companies and its failure to exorcise the mindset (common amongst luxury car manufacturers) to withhold advanced EV technology from the market at large and reserve it for selective high priced products when it should be seeking to make that technology generally available and pushing to get the full benefits of economies of scale in production like Tesla and its Chinese competitors. M-B could easily stall at this point but only as a result of a failure of nerve.

What's the parts and service situation like outside of China? I've seen a number of Model S Plaids on the street; I think they qualify as mass produced. Don't know about the Zeekr. Sounds like a great car with a great battery. Tesla is a known quantity, there are multiple service centers near me, and Superchargers are everywhere.

I think any discussion about an advanced EV must include an assessment of the ability (or lack of) for an equivalent of Tesla's Full Self Driving hardware and software. If it does not have something similar, then that should be mentioned as a missing feature.

There should be a government regulation of how fast a car can get from 0 to 60 mph. I suggest 10 seconds - because there is no reason for a fast acceleration - but only good reasons against it.

I disagree. It actually gives you a +1 degree of freedom: you can slow down, go sideway, accelerate. Really, this is very useful sometimes. Also, it is debatable whether it is less safe to accelerate faster, than anyone: you clear the way fast, so less potential collisions. Of course, you can be stupid and play a street racing game IRL. But... it was possible before, right?

What ice car does 400 miles brand new for 25k and has anything near the tech and POWER of an ev? A model 3 can do real world 260 miles on 60kwhs at hwy speeds, but 400 is an insane goal that's OVER 200+mpge. 😀
