"She struck a producer. She hit a cameraman." Those comments were funny in those days because the idea of someone actually doing it was so absurd. Alas, times have changed.😟 By the way, Johnny Olson was one of the greatest announcers in the history of TV broadcasting. He not only announced for "The Price Is Right", but also "Match Game", "Tattletales", and numerous others. He coined the phrase, "Come on down!"

My first truck cost me $8100 out the door. Now they're pushing $60k. WTH. I bought 10 cases of canned coke for a quarter a six pack on sale once. Got 10 cases for $10. 2 liters were $.69 each. Now a 20oz will run almost $3. People have asked if you could go forward or backwards in time, which would you choose? I'd go backwards for many reasons. I couldn't afford the future.

I see this a lot. It's so strange to me that people actually feel the need to correct somebody's grammar when it's obvious what the person meant. Can someone please explain to me what this sickness is? Is this the know it all group? The constantly criticizing group? The always being petty group? Someone is making a lovely comment about time spent with their grandmother and these people respond grammar focused. I am genuinely curious why this is.

I painted every patient room at a hospital with shows like these playing in the rooms. Game shows in the mornings and soaps in the afternoon. In the pre-cable era it was either those or Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers on PBS. The hospital had decent meals in the cafeteria; so it was a nice living back then.

I remember there was episode that an elderly lady was playing Cliffhangers and she had to guess the price for children's clothes. She guessed something like $60, and of course the mountain climber went over the edge. And the old lady snapped at Bob and said, "I don't shop for clothes," and stormed off the stage. And Bob said, "Well, she doesn't shop for clothes." I don't remember the year, but I think it was between 1985-1990. I know that's a huge swath, but I remember I was still in elementary school.

Agreed. It's a very difficult game to win at. I only recall one contestant who won a car at this game and that was only from default. Apparently the model of the car was announced incorrectly by the announcer, the contestant kept insisting he was right about the car's model. He lost at the game, but when they came back from commercial, Barker or Carey (I think it was the Barker era, but I can't swear to it), announced the guy was right, and that he would be driving home with the car. I don't know if they would do that today. It seems to me regardless of what kind of car it is, if you don't guess the numbers correctly, and keep striking out until you either get it right or you get 3 strikes, that's the way the game should be played.

@@BethHarmon-uv7tl All these phony quiz shows are alike. Their only purpose is to charge manufacturers to showcase their goddamned overpriced junk. They're just as crooked as casinos. Shouldn’t be too upset. She would have had to pay the sales tax on that car, (approximately 7% for non-Californian residents) and any applicable income tax. Also, the show selects a dealership within a certain distance from the winner's home, and the winner must arrange to pick up the car from that dealership.

My friend won that same car on the show that same year. She sold it back to the dealer and got taxed big time. She gave me the scooter that she won on the initial bid because I was telling her what to bid. That scooter sat on my patio for 2 years, never ridden and I think I gave it away. I honestly don't remember exactly what I did with it. By the way, she got picked because she had huge hooters and wore a red sweater that showed them well, so if you want to get picked, that's how you do it. My god, I was so hung over that day and since I knew I was going to be shown on the show, I had to fess up to my employer that I took a sick day to go to the taping. I need to find the VHS tape that has the recorded show. I was 20.....drunk.....youthful.....and not a care in the world then. I wonder what my old friend is up to these days. Ah, she was such a goofy, huge boobed, and high maintenance lass which is why she just stayed a friend. I did not have the bandwidth to keep up with her. lol. It was a really fun day, for sure.

@JRG maybe that's the way they should do it.. But no.. I have also read that the contestants don't just get to drive the car on stage home. They give the contestants a voucher, which they would take to their car dealship .. They would show the voucher to the car dealship, then pick out the car. They still have to pay the taxes if the car dealship is in their hometown ( another state).. I also heard that they don't have to accept the prizes either. If the taxes are too much, they can chose to take a pass.

You do not have to pay taxes before leaving studio. After the show is over you fill out a form and it explains exactly what you won and that you have to pay California income tax on your prizes. Approximately one week before the show airs, you'll receive a letter from accounting and you'll see the amount that you owe. And then after the show airs, you have 90 days to send in a certified check for the amount owing. After you pay the taxes you have 10 days to collect your prizes.
