Do you need to turn the water off when just replacing the diverter valve?

the water hot and cold are off already and yes you can change the diverter with out shutting off water. Which is the middle stem or otherwise know as a diverter. But to be clear hot and cold stems will need water to be shut down.

What are those plastic water guards with the slits called behind the escutcheons ? Ive never seen those before. But might work well in an certain application I am working on.

Ok. When handle doesn't come off. Unscrew the wall cover all the way. The use open end wrench to get valve out. Super easy.

Could of just turned water off at water heater since the problem was only hot side packing nut.

This works most of the time but we can get a cross over or back flow if some one uses a faucet or shower and the cold water can actually come out of the hot side since only air is in the pipe. I have experienced this a few times plus other complications. I will make my next video about, thanks.

Why not just change the seat while there? Its pennies.

Your arm and hands are covering what you are pulling out. What is that tool for? No explanation? You should have replaced the bibb seats. I stopped watching. No fun!
