Hmm...For booktube pet peeves, I think my most egregious pet peeve is seeing people subject themselves to reading Goodreads Choice Awards nominated books, fully knowing that they would most likely find mediocre books. At that point, you are just setting yourself for failure and possibly into a reading slump so close to the end of the year. I am new to watching such content, and I am already over it. Would I still watch such content next year? Probably but only a select few people depending on their approach. In fact, I am planning to scrap my Goodreads account all together. This year made me realize how much I would rather just stick to StoryGraph than use Goodreads again.

I peel the tape off and save the paper because I like to wrap my friend’s gifts in about 15 layers of paper and watch the emotional rollercoaster of them trying to open the gift 😊

I am a person that tries to un-tape lol I do reuse the wrapping paper sometimes tho! So there’s that 😅 As for the “I read this so you wouldn’t have to” videos…I mean I watch those occasionally on different products, not just books so I can make my own decisions on whatever it is the person is talking about. For example, in regards to your videos, even if they weren’t titled that way I would take some of what you say into account, like with the rf kuang videos for the poppy war series; made me realize I actually don’t want to read this books but I would pick up her other works. And I did! As for booktube pet peeves…tbr games that have penalties videos 🫣 but that’s because I think reading is suppose to be enjoyable so why punish yourself? 🤔 but idk I’m not a booktuber so I’m guessing it’s for the clicks and views (also putting scraps of paper of your tbr picks in a tiny jar and I have to watch all your papers fall out as you try to shuffle them…). I’m not too much pressed other than that.

My booktube pet peeve is when booktubers talk about books soooo vaguely to the point that i have no idea what part of the book they are talking about or it feels like we can’t have read the same book. Maybe they do this to avoid spoilers but I think it’s not THAT serious if it’s not a mystery/thriller

Something that really annoys me that didn’t when I first started watching videos is list videos. There is one specific creator who I used to love watching that does a lot of Goodreads lists where the same authors that they don’t like pop up over and over again. It gets to a point where is like why are they reading from an author when they don’t like their writing and have given the authors books 1/2 stars. From a viewer perspective it’s pointless watching because I already know from the thumbnail that the creator isn’t going to like those book on the Goodreads list becuase they haven’t liked them the past 3 years running. Another thing that annoys me is all the videos on the Goodreads choice awards. There is so much discourse on why certain books are chosen and it’s the same every year. They are just a popularity contest and the videos on it just feed into it. I saw a video on someone reading the romance category and they thought the book that won was bad but it won for a reason and it all just feels so reductive.

My biggest Booktube pet peeve is the thumbnails with holding up the books, facing away. It is especially annoying if it is a single book recommendation. "This is my new favorite book", and then hides the cover/spine. I will go on the preview, and find the spot where you are holding up the book, and if I'm not interested in it, then I will not click on it. So complete waste of effort. I also really dislike the wikipedia/reading the blurb summaries. And some people only do those. Those people are shady, and makes me think that a. you didn't read the book, and you are lying, or b. reading comprehension is bad. I know you don't like lifestyle content in reading vlogs, but because of this tendency I have people that I have given up on, and just watch their stuff for the lifestyle sections, and ignore whatever they are saying about the book's summary, and sometimes even if they liked it or not. For the books I am interested in, I have reviewers that I trust. But most booktube content creators are not actually reviewers. They are just there for the bookish vibes. Which is fine. I like a good lifestyle vlog. But I am not going to care what those people think of a book. No matter how often they keep saying that "this is my best book of the year", or "I am going to keep pushing this book into everyone's hand".

My booktube pet peeve is when ppl take a thumbnail with all the books facing away from the camera. That makes me not want to watch at all. You might as well not even hold up the books atp. At least show me one or two. Give me something to look forward to.

My bookish pet peeve is when I see silly videos like my “I let my instagram/neighbor/boss/cat pick my tbr.” I think it’s okay to have bookish friends or partners pick tbrs. But the others will get me to unfollow so fast. Some of our faves do this and I had to unfollow because I couldn’t have that foolishness in my feed. It’s giving ridiculous and unserious. Just pick some books and make a wrap up about it. Content doesn’t need to have a gimmick to be interesting.
