Once they implement the new track replay system and if it has the ability to rewind DCS content is gonna explode.

5800x3d/4090/64gb you can max everything at 4k and expect 120fps+ no issues but expect a dip if using a lot of AI units at the start of a mission as everything loads in.

for VR performance, Something you can experiment with: Set VR Pixel Density lower (i.e. 0.5) and increase resolution in your VR-Software (i.e. SteamVR video settings) inversely (200%). You can try the opposite too (DCS Pixel density of 2, SteamVR 50%). For me, this helps performance wise, but your milage may vary

Just a warning: using upscaling like DLSS can make it impossible to see distant aircraft. An easy way to check how settings impact spotting is to setup a mission where you're flying in clear weather with an aircraft out ahead of you traveling perpendicular across your flight path and very slightly higher than you (optimal conditions). Pause the game when you spot them and use the F10 map to measure the distance. (Move yourself further away if you can see them immediately.) Try it a few times with different upscaling (and antialiasing) settings.

@@Pricklyhedgehog72 Thanks. I don't want to tell people how to play, or suggest anyone should optimize their settings for "competitive" play. I just want to raise some awareness because being unable to spot distant targets can be really frustrating.

120hz, or 90hz. depending on what I'm doing, everything else is default. No smoothing.

Noted that you use your own headset rather than DMAS. I am looking at the Crystal Light for later this year, and wondered about that. How do the ergonomics of headset over VR (I assume it's that rather than VR over headset) work? My system is similar (7800 X3d rather than Intel, but otherwise the same 64Gb RAM, RX 4090, All M2 and SSD except for backup) and we run pretty similar configs with almost the same results it sounds like. Thanks for all the hard work on these and the info!
@Pricklyhedgehog722 ай бұрын
@Boots3862 once you go VR it's difficult to see the game any other way. It's so much more realistic and engaging, you feel like you're inside the aircraft. Ergonomics are pretty good with the Light, it's not heavy. Admittedly, extended flights might get a bit sweaty depending on room Temps, and of course running in VR does work your system more than 2D

@@Pricklyhedgehog72 Agree completely that VR is a "game changer". I think I wasn't clear enough. I currently use a Reverb G2 (with built-in audio). I am probably transitioning to a Crystal Light at the end of this year (due to life limitations on Reverb due to Windows...), but am intrigued by your using a separate headset for audio. I have a great Razer Audio headset that I use for most every other Audio purpose with my machine, and am curious about HOW you use your audio headset with the Crystal Light. I assume you wear the audio headset OVER the Crystal (rather than the other way around), and wondered about how that worked comfort and stability wise; or do you use ear buds (and then what about the mike). Sorry for not being clear up front, and again thank you for being a real resource for the community. Always enjoy (and learn from) your videos.

@@Boots3862 I put on the headphones first, and I'm using some Steelseries ArctiPro headset. the earpieces are a little bulky, and get in the way slightly, but not enough to be a major problem. I have looked into different systems like earbuds, but it's impossible to recreate the sound and comfort of good headphones and the noise canceling.

@@Pricklyhedgehog72 Aha. If those will fit, then mine will fit. Excellent. My wife will be happy, too as she doesn't love to hear the sim from the "off the ear" speakers in the Reverb. THANKS!

btw RAM isn't always bigger number better. 64 is probably the premium for DCS. More than this can impact the performance as it may not necessarily be able to hit the same clock and latency timings so there is a trade off especially if you go to a 4 dimm kit.. Some workloads need space, some need speed and low latency. DCS needs a bit of both so I think a good 64gb 2x dimm kit (DDR5) is about the best it can be.

There is no reason to have anisotropic filter to 4x. it causes no performance to have it max and helps with distant textures.

If there's no performance hit why isn't the default set at max?

I'd highly suggest setting screenshots to PNG if you want to share them. Also don't see a reason to have heatblur on low. That high of a preload radius may not be necessary either

I've never really understood this setting, if you have 64gb ram and 24gb vram why would it not be maximum. Never seemed to make any difference for me other than when not max, I get big, infrequent stutters. Presumably when it reloads.
