I'm glad yall had a more positive than not on the west coast. Coming out as a lesbian trans woman (later as Leather) in the religious (Baptist) South, I had my mom blackmail me, my aunt say that no on would love me, and my grandmother laugh at me when I came out to them after years of struggling with my identity. I was exiled, twice, and when they passed, I never went back to their funerals. Now living in MA, I'm the Rainbow Lady, even with rainbows in my leathers with my Pride pins and all!!!

I escaped my evangelical parents when I was 14 years old with a 28.8k US Robotics modem. I stole my parents internet login and ran the phone line out my bedroom window to the telecom terminal box on the back of the house. Soldered clips onto the end of of the line to make the connection. As far as resources for discovering identity were concerned, back then they did not really exist in a small town in the South. What little I could even find was online. More recently I saw for myself why conservatives are in a panic over libraries and are pushing queer book bans. In the years since, the tiny library in the small town by the hospital where I was born has gone from having nothing to several queer books. Which is interesting. But the gem is the graphic novels section. The LGBTQIA+ community absolutely dominates this section of the library. From a trans arab immigrant, to lesbians, to an autistic enby ace, genderqueer ace, gay, bi, the variety of identities on these few shelves are beyond the wildest imaginings of my younger self. Best of all these books are free with a library card. At least for now.

I am enthralled by this episode; I love listening to others' stories, especially others' coming out stories. I myself, Gen Z, came out as trans (ftm) in late middle school without really coming out. I was going to kill myself if something didn't change, so I had to (even if I couldn't exactly verbalize what was going on with me). So, I cut my hair and dressed in men's clothes and told a single friend to use new pronouns (I had already changed my name since my dead name made me sick to my stomach). People questioned the changes I was making, and I was bullied on and off. My situation was not helped by the fact that I was unable to physically get the words out most of the time, it made it more confusing for everyone, but at the same time, I think if I had been loud and proud at the time... the bullying would have been worse. My friend group was queer, but outside of them... I was in a small, red town. Then, when I started HRT, I did the same thing, not telling anyone. Obviously, there were visible changes, but I could not put words to it for a long time. All that said, I cannot imagine if I went through hell and high water learning to be able to say such things as, "I'm trans" and, "I'm queer" how hard it was for people older than me with even more social pressures on them. I'm still unlearning all those social pressures and taboos that I have internalized, and I am learning to relax and indulge more with being openly out and proud--this podcast helps immensely with that. Thank you!

It’s funny how y’all mentioned that the age of social media has really contributed to people coming out, or sometimes even accidentally coming out/being forced to come out. As someone who came out through accidentally sending a picture of my room with pride flags up to the family groupchat, it feels so much harder to stay closeted in the age of the internet. Having to constantly monitor what content to put out on the internet, to scour every photo for indication of queerness before sending or posting. But also, I feel like posting or sending pics on the internet brings an opportunity to have that kind of conversation, instead of just bringing it up out of the blue.

The audio is not good in this one but also this is the second video of theirs where it’s all static if I use my ear buds but when I take them out and just play it through my phone I can hear them better. Either way with this one the audio isn’t good. Bummer!

I know everyone else is saying it too, but there is a lot of static in this on the iPad KZbin app. It’s weird because when it cuts to Amp, the audio is crystal clear, but when it’s on everyone else, it’s full of static. And I’ve been watching a lot of videos today and none of the other videos are having that issue. Maybe it was the mic closest to them that’s not working? Hope this helps.

The audio is coming out weird, there's only sound in one of my earbuds when I try to listen to it. Same when I switched to computer speakers, it's only coming out one side. Unfortunately makes it unlistenable for me, it's physically uncomfortable to have it only hitting one of my ears. It's unfortunate, this seems like it'd been a fantastic video and I've never had this problem with any audio from here before!

When I first watched this video on a regular computer I could hear a lot of background noise on it. It's even worse watching this on the Google YT app through my phone, all that I could hear is the static garglling out the voices. The only time I could hear voices clearly was when the camera cut away to Amp. Otherwise it was an enjoyable and informative video. Happy Pride!🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️

I would love to see and hear an episode about the clothing of leather. The uniform episode was so fun and Id love to hear more about how the clothing is part of the kinky identity. In full disclosure Im a trained costume designer and seamstress so this is my niche interest.

So sorry. We hear that there is an audio problem and trying to figure it out. To help us figure it out. What are you playing it on? Are you using headphones? Are they Bluetooth? Any specifics that can help us narrow the problem down would be helpful and appreciated.

@@OnGuardCigarSalon Hi! The audio is also very bad for me and I'm using usb speakers. @@OnGuardCigarSalon Sounds like there's a waterfall nearby no matter what output and my headphone audio went to purely static/the waterfall sound a few times. I've been switching apps to try and finish it.

@OnGuardCigarSalon I'm sorry about the late reply , I've been using the mobile app and the desktop version, early episodes no problemo, later ones for me sound crackley, almost like your underwater... I'm normally using the normal phone speaker or a bose Bluetooth ( haven't tried headphones) but all the later episodes come out like that , no matter what version of KZbin I use... I'll test headphones, not really a headphones dude as I find it distracting from the real world.

@@OnGuardCigarSalonThe mics seem to be picking up a lot of ambient sound when you’re focused on the group (sounds like traffic or rain, lots of white noise and the voices are faint), but Amp comes through loud and clear when the shot is focused on him. Watching on the KZbin app on an I-Pad, no headphones or earbuds. Hope this is helpful because I really enjoy these videos. Peace …
