I have my late father in law's footlocker when he was in the CCC at 17 in 1942. A place in Caleton, Pa. and he always said it was a very good experience. He then joined the Army and was a vet of WW2. He even got to see where his parents were from bc he ended up stationed in Italy. He spoke Italian which was to his benefit but then a lot of WW2 soldiers spoke German, Polish, Austrian etc bc of their parents. I proudly display this locker where you can see it. :o)

😲 * PRESCOTT, AZ. *, 79 years ago❗️✨😻⚡️👍 We watched this last night and it was awesome! 😀 Great, sharp footage of downtown, Thumb Butte, the Fairgrounds, etc. ❗️ My dad was an “East Side Kid”, born in 1924 and lived in Jersey City, etc. These were his guys - he would’ve loved seeing his childhood heroes in the Prescott area! ☺️

One of the few 'Bowery Boys' films without the great Huntz Hall. He, and Leo Gorcey are the heart of these movies. The man who made us laugh with his unforgettable and unique persona of Horace DeBussy Jones, best known as "Sach." - In the beginning, for the most part the films were variations on the theme of ''Dead End.'' - In urban settings, still tinged by the Depression, the films' antiheroes were criminals or suspects in crime, played by stars such as Bogart, in ''Crime School'' 1938), James Cagney in ''Angels With Dirty Faces''(1938) and John Garfield in ''They Made Me a Criminal''(1939). The young men always struggled with their feelings toward these notorious neighborhood luminaries. By 1940 the genre had changed, and the Dead End Kids' movies had more in common with the older 'Our Gang Comedies' than with any realistic portrayals of society's lower depths. In these film comedies the gang took on counterfeiters, spies, safe crackers, kidnappers and jewel thieves. No longer were the Dead Enders ambiguous or torn in their sympathies; they were full-fledged good guys. ~ During the war years Mr. Hall appeared in nine films for Universal in which he was usually called Pig. Another series for Monogram Pictures cast the rubber-faced, pop-eyed Mr. Hall in his usual role of a good-natured dumb guy. ~ Finally in 1946 came the first of the ''Bowery Boys'' series, in which Gorcey played Slip Mahoney, the ring leader, and Mr. Hall was Sach Jones, his sidekick. In all, 48 films were made. In the last one, ''In the Money'' (1958), a 38-year-old Mr. Hall is once more the perpetual adolescent, dog-sitting a poodle on a cruise as nefarious thieves try to steal a diamond hidden on the dog. - With the passage of the Bowery Boys, Mr. Hall continued to act in television shows and movies. In 1977 he played the role of a movie mogul in Ken Russell's ''Valentino.'' He performed in dinner theater productions but retired in 1994 after the death of his fourth wife. ~ Hall, who for 20 years played the slow-witted sidekick of Leo Gorcey in more than 80 ''Bowery Boys,'' ''Dead End Kids'' and ''East Side Kids'' movies, died on Saturday, February 2nd, 1999, in Los Angeles. He was 78. The cause was cardiac disease, his family said. ~Mr. Hall is survived by a son, the Rev. Gary R. Hall of Pasadena, Calif., and a grandson. ~~~ i.ebayimg.com/thumbs/images/g/dCYAAOSwHSRhOCgZ/s-l1600.jpg

Decent entry in the series. Also, the only non-Jones Family film I've seen to feature tragic B actor Kenneth Howell.

Sometimes due to Studio contract certain actors could not appear in all episodes! Dead end kids, Eastside kids, the Clancy Street kids and the Bowery Boys were all produced by different Studios! The series started in 1937 with the movie The Dead End starring Humphrey Bogart and ended in 1958 with the Bowery Boys episode entitled in the money. This movie came out in 1940 huntz Hall did not appear in the Eastside kids until 1941.

1940: Fast Forward to 2020. Yikes, this flick is 80 years old / two generations ago! My late father was in the CCC. It's what they called an economic stimulus back in the day. I thought that President Obama's "Stimulus Package " would be like this.

My dad was also in the CCC. He built roads in Washington State. He was only 16 and hadn't even started shaving yet. The tough old guy in charge made all the guys shave every morning, but Dad didn't have any whiskers yet, so he took the blade out of the shaver and went through the motions. He returned to the family farm in Funston, Georgia after his stint in the CCC and by then was old enough to join the Army, which he did just before WW2 ended.
