One can't question the talent of Michael Curtiz as a director(Casablanca 1942)....You can have a full trust in him. Furthermore Alan Ladd and Olivia de Haviland starring....This film was made in 1958...Alan Ladd's image is substantially similar to that of Shane ...but anyway I offer my sincere condolence to his rather short filmography...Alas !.He died at his golden years of age...in his mid 50s...w/his golden blonde hair glistening...

I like the old western movies, but its very sad the way they used and abused animals in all the movies, horses, cattle, dogs, donkeys etc. I always feel sorry for the animals.

One of the best films I've ever seen. Being a lover of old films, I can't believe I'm seeing this only now. Mr. Ladd and his son are so sweet together and Ms. De Havilland is wonderful. They support each other remarkably well. Made me cry. It was just so good!!!❤

Slowly watching Alan Ladd's entire filmography; finally watched this Alan Ladd western for the first time on 09/03/2024 that was on my A. Ladd watch list. Proud Rebel is as good as Shane, and definitely on my re-watch list as well as a potential ClassicFlix Blu-ray purchase when it is released in early-2025.

Eu acho que é a terceira vez que assisto a este filme, se não ganhou o Oscar deveria se não recebeu a Lei Rouanet dos states deveria, (fazem umas porcariadas por aqui e levam milhões). The best Ladd movie of the fifties - after "Shane", of course. Such a pity Alan Ladd very rarely got or found the "right material" and directors who knew how to use his talent. Insecure and very sensitive, plus a couple of unfortunate choices (he turned down the part of Jett Rink in "Giant", got stuck in potboilers instead). His career nosedived, and he died a couple of months after his 50th birthday. So sad... He had great chemistry with a mature, wonderful Olivia de Havilland.

Does anyone have any more information about King (Lance)? The sheep herding scene is wonderful, as is his energy throughout. On IMDB a bit of trivia says that he was a sheep herding champion, but little else. After some googling I still come up with nothing. Much appreciate any information.
