I have read Seraphim Rose but I have yet to find an Orthodox voice (or Buddhist for that matter) willing to address the profound similarities and parallels between Buddhist and Orthodox theology and praxis. There is something important to be learned here but I don't think either side cares enough to truly explore it.

They're similar because they're talking about the same thing. I'm not sure what there is to explore.

On the surface they may appear similar but there are fundamental differences. One in which suffering is not to be eliminated in orthodoxy, whereas Buddhism claims there is a way out through the eightfold path, the Truth had become incarnate in Christ while Siddhartha Gautama claimed to have continued to be searching for the truth up until his passing, and Buddhism is the sneakiest of all pagan religions imo because it takes away any deities so it appears more innocent than the others, but you invariably end up worshipping your self and thus breaking the 1st commandment that there shall be no other idols before Him. I believe st. Nicholas of Japan (orthodox saint) has some interesting things to say on Buddhism too. And finally, the jhana states, while appearing to bring peace and knowledge, similar to theosis, if not rooted in Christ, then who or what are you worshipping? It’s just a deeper emptiness into yourself. And what’s the number one job of the devil? To take you away from Christ, Who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

@@kokkales1 anattã- no self. There is no worship in Buddhism, especially in the original Theravada. Possibly in Tibetan Buddhism where there is more ritual. In Buddhism, there is no elimination of suffering in that it ceases to exist. You’re entitled to your views as are the rest of us. As is the Neuroscience of what actually happens in prayer & meditation, in the case of Orthodoxy, through ritual. In many interfaith & church dialogues, people are trying to find common ground whilst adhering to their own dogma. Seems to me to be a highly laudable pursuit given the state of our planet. I hve to say, having spent a lot of time around Buddhists & around Orthodox, I know who are generally the more ethical & compassionate of the two in groups together, but then there are very few saints.
