I just discovered Fr. Freeman today, and his words have been a blessing. He is such a good speaker, because he can take difficult concepts and make them simple enough for a child to understand. He makes the heart feel simple and warm. God bless you Fr. Freeman! Our God is so good!!!

I am so thankful to God for your wisdom and perspective. I don't quite understand his advice about thanking God for all things. Can someone explain it to me? Like, I don't understand why I should give thanks for bad things when bad things happen? Shouldn't I give thanks for the good things I still am blessed with when bad things happen?

The word he’s using in this sense is “remorse” rather the shame that psychs hve been studying. In Orthodoxy it’s more like “we’re all broken” not “we’re all bad/evil etc”. In this sense, remorse about our weaknesses & failings as people. That’s what we take to church/confession with us. I may be not spot on theologically, but grew up in the Orthodox Church & hve a psych background. So maybe it helps. It’s a curly one, hve struggled with it myself.
