I wish there were more people and priests like Fr. Stephen Freeman out there in the world

Fr Stephen Freeman is my favourite stand-up comedian.

I just discovered Fr. Freeman today, and his words have been a blessing. He is such a good speaker, because he can take difficult concepts and make them simple enough for a child to understand. He makes the heart feel simple and warm. God bless you Fr. Freeman! Our God is so good!!!

Fr. Stephen I know you have to retire in the next few years, but keep talking, keep visiting, keep helping us. Your words have touched me more than any Father I have ever listened to. I am so thankful to God for your wisdom and perspective. I know it is God coming through you -- just like myrrh streaming it is wisdom -streaming -- but thank you for continuing to surrender to doing this in Christ.

St. Paisios prayer for the devil. And he saw him mocking his prayer. That's when he realized the devil could be saved, if only he would say "Kyrie eleison" once, but he doesn't want salvation.

I have listened to this many times in the past couple of years. I especially love what he talks about "Orthodoxy is" beginning around 50:15.

Thanks in all things... "And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose. For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers." Romans 8:27-29.

Brothers, you have to quit keeping your mobile phones in your chest pockets, near your heart. Both for health, and symbolic, reasons. :)

@Anch Si I guess I figured phones are a way to communicate

I don't quite understand his advice about thanking God for all things. Can someone explain it to me? Like, I don't understand why I should give thanks for bad things when bad things happen? Shouldn't I give thanks for the good things I still am blessed with when bad things happen?

39:22 and that's actually a sound advice. I am going to try it next time.

The word he’s using in this sense is “remorse” rather the shame that psychs hve been studying. In Orthodoxy it’s more like “we’re all broken” not “we’re all bad/evil etc”. In this sense, remorse about our weaknesses & failings as people. That’s what we take to church/confession with us. I may be not spot on theologically, but grew up in the Orthodox Church & hve a psych background. So maybe it helps. It’s a curly one, hve struggled with it myself.

With the choir vs solo, I'm not sure the point is to favor one over the other. Seems like both have their uses.

I like to use an analogy of a slingshot. God has to allow the devil to pull us back in order to propel us forward in sanctification.
