I'm not a Metroidvania fan but love that you're not alone in this. This is my biggest problem with many family/team-based Metroidvania games where you're essentially alone for the entire game even though there are others on your side.

The little dino is your adopted sidekick, Sino the sinosauropteryx! Sino will be with you throughout the whole journey, and player 2 can join in at any time with local co-op :) Sino will be able to die during combat and from other dangers, but you can revive Sino with some food.
