Not sure hot legit it is (looks pretty legit, it's also before the PC release) but does show off the insane theoretical RNG required to never getting hit by pain after dying to oblivion.

Great vid. I agree with the water restriction. The reasoning was fair, Shinryu is pretty easy and Kimahri would definitely handle it better than he did Neslug, so it’s all good, he gets a buy into the fight with Nemesis. All good.

Khimari would handle it fine, but the break status from shinryu is not protected by ribbon. However, with only khimari alive he'd never use it anyway.

From what I remember, you can kill Anima with solo char. You need to be full 99.999 HP and you will survive his overdrive attack.

For the dark flan i like to use break dmg magic +++ magic ++ 1 mp cost or magic + and use reflect on myself and doublecast flare :)

@@Primalliquid92Riku can do it, and Dansg08 did a playthrough with Auron solo base stats, but did use the sphere grid to teach him Use and Steal, as that's the only ability that makes NSG in general possible

Yeah, unfortunately aside from Solo Yuna w/aeons, it doesn't seem possible to solo Dark Anima and much less Penance. (If the upper damage limit didnt exist it might be possible using Nova?) Oh well, at the very least you have defeated the entirety of the original PS2 release, so that's pretty good (As for fighting Shinryu, one thing you could've done is transfer Kimahri's stats and equipment to either Tidus/Wakka/Rikku for the fight, because yeah you would have absolutely won, considering its literally designed to be a 1v1.)

So, the only bosses that couldn’t be beat post game required an Aeon to basically take the hit instead?… So the same challenge with Yuna is possible if you consider her summoning them to take the hit as her ability. It would probably be too easy a challenge however without further restrictions, Anima or the Magus Sisters could probably solo it themselves at higher levels

Well, it's possible to solo anima even on No Sphere Grid by using Rikku, but that's because Mix is busted

You can increase you chances against Dark Anima by having less health. If you reduce your max health enough that an elixir with let you survive both an normal attack and a Mega Graviton then the only thing that can kill you is Pain

With something like a solo Yuna challenge, it turns into a No Sphere Grid challenge for the parts of the story where she's not there. So it would make sense to have to do an NSG Shinryu right to unlock Nemesis. This is possible, though it may actually be more luck dependant than soloing Dark Anima. Either way, I think cheating to skip the Shinryu fight is the right call, since we already know NSG Shinryu is possible but would be extremely time consuming to get.

NSG Shinryu is mathematically far less likely compared to Dark Anima solo. That relies far too much on not getting petrified at all and also the multihit only landing on 2 of the 3 characters. You're better off trying to win the 7 digit top prizes of multiple lotteries.

I remembered Doom because that is how I initially beat Brian and Yankee. Is the Armageddon counter an International exclusive? I soloed Nemesis on the OG PS2 version, because reviving allies became a liability, and only counter I remember was Ultima on Overdrives. I remember the counter strat on Dark Bahamut from an old Auron vs video. It was my go-to audio if I was in the mood for It's All Over by Three Days Grace since it played about 2.3 times. I still find it funny an Aeon with enough HP, full def, protect, and full cheer stacks can tank Dark Zanmato when shielding.

I can't see anyone doing a solo on penance unless it's with Tidus or Wakka. And even then it still might not be possible. Assuming it is possible for them to solo Penance, then Tidus and/or Wakka could theoretically do every single fight solo. Although I'm still curious on how far rikku can go solo from the time you officially get her.

Can't blame you for not being able to finish Dark Anima and Yojimbo, but you should know they ARE in fact possible (yes, even without requiring insane amounts of luck). For Dark Anima I actually first managed by being lucky and not seeing Pain immediately after Oblivion, but eventually I came up with a strategy that can give you a guaranteed win, which requires you to have enough HP to survive Oblivion (which you do here) so you get multiple turns afterwards to toss an Elixir and put up Auto-Life again. Ideal armour would be BHPL, Ribbon, Auto-Haste and Elemental Eater (delete every Magic Defence node on the grid so you can fully heal with one -ga spell). Always heal to full before Oblivion even if you don't have time to reapply Auto-Life, then take Oblivion, use Elixir and reapply Auto-Life. Then proceed as normal. For Yojimbo, it will always require luck (you need him to not use Kozuka at all in the later fights, maybe once at most), and you need to use Doublecast Ultima for damage instead of Quick Hit. Of course, like you said, Tidus and Wakka have an easier time because of their Overdrives, but every character can do it. If you search around, there's videos of at least Rikku killing Yojimbo.

The only one who even has a speck of a chance is Yuna due to being able to summon to avoid the inevitable Judgment Days (no way in hell can you keep the arms consistently dead), and she doesn't have a counter ability on her Celestial Weapon so her damage output is considerably lower than other characters. But it's still impossible for a multitude of reasons. He's simply way too strong and demanding of your turns to keep up against. Like consider that in Phase 2 you need to Dispel yourself after every turn of his or you die.

There is an Auron solo Penance fight floating around youtube that was very clearly done using save states (despite the author skirting around the issue when asked), and in that fight the Arms never did anything aside from their respective harmless attacks (so essentially they didn't exist aside from being Judgment Day enablers). Over such a long fight, the odds of doing this without cheating are beyond astronomically low.

What always annoyed me about the monster arena is that you have to basically break the game in order to beat anything in it, but if you've broken the game the rewards are essentially worthless. And doing it just for the sake of it was never appealing to me.

Ummm since when did Ribbon protect against Shinryu's attacks? Thats been the main hurdle of NSG runs. Ribbon and Stoneproof on the same armour doesnt work at all

Its possible if you were to uncap the damage limit entirely on Nova with a mod, apparently that would deal like 14 million damage or something, oneshotting all of these bosses. But again, that would be cheating, amazing attempt regardless though!

the absolute strongest attack in the game even with no damage cap i believe is aurons OD at 4.5 million with his celestial. Nova has the highest damage multipler but its not the strongest when other things come into play

Yeah, you cannot solo the post-game due to Dark Anima always one-shotting even the best characters and Penance one-shotting you if you have only one character. This is why I do not plan on ever getting the FFX Platinum, the Dark Aeons and Penance are evil.
