Love my PA 1-8x SLX ACSS on my PSA AR! It was supposed to be just an entry level carbine until I could afford the nice stuff… but it’s been a really good performer for the $$ Been able to do CQB and hit steel out to 700 with 77 gr HPBT ammo! Poors represent ✊

Does it also do a good job with cqb? Fast target acquisition and easy to find the reticle when you draw the rifle up to aiming position? I’m wanting to buy one but just thinking about traditional scopes it takes a few seconds to get around the “black” to find the crosshairs

@@RosaParksWasWyt it’s the jack of all trades. The 1-8x has a bigger reticle horseshoe so it’s decent at close range…. Best set up would be to add a RDS to an LPVO for the best CQB + midrange optic combo

Yes. The Primary Arms 1-6X ACSS is GTG for “Combat Accuracy on A/C Zone Size Target’s”. Using the Strelok Ballistic App allows you to fine tune the Hash Marks value for different bullets/weights and barrel lengths/velocities, which should be verified at distances indicated. (The Reticles “Hash Marks” will obviously have different values for a 10.3” barrel than a 16”.) Enjoyable Vid! Have an excellent Memorial Day lads.

I have the 1-8x version of this scope/reticle on a DD V11 and it's a great fit. The reticle, as you mentioned, is super intuitive and once dialed-in, even new shooters can go 10 for 10 on a 10" gong at 300 yards so easily, it's almost boring. Primary Arms really is one of the most innovative companies out there. Good review, keep 'em coming.

How’s the target acquisition for close range targets? Does it have the black that you have to try and get around to see the crosshairs?

@@RosaParksWasWyt Since there's not really a 'crosshair', it's not bad. As the video mentioned, even though it says it's 1x, it's really not, but it's close. To my eyes, having the dial at ~1.1 looks like 1x. But then I treat it just like a red dot, more or less. Both eyes open, get the target in the horseshoe, and should be good to go, accounting for height over bore and bullet drop, etc.

While it could do the job, there are far better options (Eotech XPS, red dots, etc) considering the most likely HD situation is gonna be at night within ten yards in your house. But for competitions, the occasional varmint hunting, engaging steel targets at unknown distances, and general purpose shooting, I think PA has a winner in those circles.

The problem with 2nd focal plane scope is that the sub-tensions on the reticle will only be accurate at max magnification. That's important for an LPVO. Yes, the reticle will thicken on a 1st plane scope, but any reticle or BDC will be accurate regardless of the magnification the scope is dialed into. So, for that reticle to be accurate, even at only 100 meters, it must be on 6x magnification. That's a lot of magnification for 109 yards. The advantages are that thin reticle regardless of magnification & a much lower price point.

I was about to comment the same thing, I got this LPVO from a friend in a trade and the build and glass is great but all this information in the reticle is un-usable. I think this should have been marketed as a fixed 6 power scope, but you know everybody is on the lpvo train now lol

With it being first focal plane the holds are at any magnification that's the benefit of first vs second second the ranging is only at max power where for FFP is at any magnification

Ffp are trash on LPVOs frankly.. SFP is the way to go. If you're shooting far enough to even NEED holds, you're gonna be at 6x ANYWAYS. With a 36yd zero I'm holding dead o. Out to 300 anyways with less than 6" of total vertical deviation at every range in between point blank and 300yds..... And at 400, you NEED to be on 6x anyways just to PID the target regardless so it's a moot point FFP can get you killed up close when you can't even see your reticle lol, and up close matters MORE because as a civilian chances are your fight is WELL within 100yds... And FFP that reticle is often UNUSABLE at 1z llx in low contrast areas, that reticle disappears NTY. FFP is fine for higher magnification scopes, but a liability on an LPVO

Not going to lie I like the PA ACSS, but the Sig MSR 1-6 is waaaay more forgiving on the eyebox and for the price point. But the amount of information you get with the ACSS is amazing.

I'm a PA fan boy and even let bias sneak through on some "honest" opinions but you're 100% correct. Not only is the MSR cheaper, comes with an extremely solid mount and completely destroys PA 1x quality, 1x reticle use and brightness and is more 1x "true". The Sig reticle does an amazing job at drawing the eye to the center without making the glass busy and actually lights up the quick aim and center dot ONLY unlike PA lighting up the whole damn tree. If I had to give the comparable pa scope does better is that it's much easier to use the BDC and ranging but that can be countered with the Sig with just some extra practice and note taking. I tell everyone with a 500 and under budget to get the Sig msr 1-6.

Those of us that are visually handicapped with an astigmatism suffer most when using glass that's either straight holographic or used a emitter to reflect an image on glass like 95% of RDS optics. When the glass is actually etched like prism scopes and LPVO's we suffer the least, even when the etched reticle has glowing options.

PST is hands down better, UNLESS you are shooting past 300yds frequently. PST is daylight bright and basically a red dot for CQB, and with a good zero your aiming dead on to 2-300yds anyways so the BDC is a moot point. But if you often shoot 4-600 mabey consider the PA due to the better ability to range and Hold and also have wind holds as well which helps. I use a 36yd zero so I'm holding dead on out to 300 anyways (only 6" of vertical POI deviation out to 300 so it's my fav zero by far) Also, the PA relies on using a 100yd Zero for the BDC, and personally I'm not interested in that due to the massive POI difference INSIDE 100, which in my opinion is the more important range to be fast due to the fact that as a civilian chances are EXTREMELY high if you ever need your carbine to fight it's WELL inside 100yds.... YMMV but the PST smokes this in many ways. In fact, in ALL WAYS except shooting at unknown distances past 300yds and the PST is like 5oz heavier

I have the highest corrective power astigmatism contacts lenses and red dots BARELY starburst. Idk what it is but finding a good eye box never goes well on lpvos. I’ve taken courses with good instructors trying to figure it out and I just can’t get it consistent

@@Chrisblau I’m not a expert on the human eye but I understand it’s function. I look on the internet for medical conditions besides astigmatism I think I have a running theory. The theory has me assuming you’ve adjusted the diopter and focus on the reticle. And You’ve tried closing your non dominate eye shooting doesn’t help with focusing, and switching to your opposite side shooting with a closed dominant eye also doesn’t help then it leaves two possibilities (I think). You don’t have perfectly steady eyes, the shake ever so slightly due to tiny muscle spasms, could be lack of blood flow or lack of water intake, idk. Drink 1.1 gallons and see if that helps if not then maybe your eyes can’t settle easily. So if you go from a dim room to a outside sunny day and your eyes don’t start adjusting immediately then this is likely your issue, this is commonly seen in people who don’t go outside without sunglasses. I should’ve written down the names of these conditions but i blundered that when Researching this five or so hours ago. Again I’m not a specialty medical professional just a trauma trained Marine nerd with a problem solving drive.

Depends on the caliber, barrel length, grain weight, etc. On a 16" shooting 55gr, zeroed at 100yd (recommended by PA) you'll hit top of Chevron at 100/anywhere inside the Chevron closer in

Is their reticle, I just could not be bothered to care about the ACSS reticle system, I understand all of the "utility" but I'd much rather just have a crosshair or cross-dot reticle with that scope wrapped around it.
