'Primary Sky' Painting Demo

If you liked my video 'The Truth About The Colour Wheel', you'll love this oil painting demonstration. 'Primary Sky' is an oil on canvas (80 x 80cm) skyscape painted predominantly using only 3 colours, ivory black and Zinc/ titanium white. Much of the impasto is applied using various palette knifes.
These colours are: Translucent Cyan, Cadmium yellow light and Quinacridone Rose.
Ivory black is used only for coverage/opacity. The greys and tertiary colours are all created by neutralizing the 3 primaries (CMY).

Cool sky! Is this to go with your coasters or is this just where you're at right now? Love this effect, so colourful. This is also the wonder of oils, if only I could put up with the smell. Much more effective no doubt about it and the colours much more vibrant too. I don't think my OCD would allow me to be so messy on my canvas... :oD

hey man, i love your work. i have a quesion about using black oil paint. i´ve heard that there are problems with black oil paints, lamp black in particular. something to do with their permanence. Is this true? also, do you ever paint plein air? if you do it would be awsome to see you work outdoors!
