I prefer “chipping away at the stone” I recommend EVERY new driver at any company to start as a company driver, then develop a steady and comfortable rhythm so you aren’t working too hard, not hard enough. Steady wins the race. Make all your mistakes on the company side, unless you’re hitting stuff every few days, they expect you to screw up. Stay a company driver so when you inevitably do things like start your clock too early, you aren’t under the gun and reminding yourself “I have to make my truck payment” take that part of the formula out and your state of mind will prevent you from screwing up even worse. I had a student cause 4500 in damage by putting the wrong fuel in my truck, and that was the price without turning the key on and cycling that fuel into the lines. If that happened it would have tripled the bill. All it takes is a few seconds to screw up. Don’t rush anything and just take your time
