@@jessmacdd Well, he did spend his earliest years in Ottawa. He went to French immersion there. Actually I know plenty of people who were born in Montreal and who grew up there and can barely speak French. It is really a question of two solitudes.

@@jessmacdd Yes, I grew up in Montreal, and my syntax and sentence structure in French are far better than his are. (He is originally from Ottawa, though, and his mother is a unilingual English-speaker.)

Damn. I really wanted to listen to this. French is my third language, English my second. I'd be fine with listening to it in either language. However. Listening to French while a semi-audible English translation is running in the background is just too confusing. Good job, CBC. >:-(

Suggestion. Use English subtitles. Lose the too loud English voice translation. I am capable of reading. I want to hear--without obstruction--what the PM has to say.

i'am well versed in English, my second language and studying French. I know that's how sim-interpretation works but it would be better if the English translation is provided seperately, at least on youtube..

He is a native English-speaker from Ottawa. To the French from France, French-Canadians are distant lost cousins who now live an Anglo-Saxon lifestyle in North America.

@@miks_w8945 I am French and I often listen to Quebecois on KZbin, including extracts from TV shows and films, and I understand very well what they are saying. I think they use standard French to be understood by all francophones by avoiding words and expressions typically Quebecois, except those that we know well.

Michael Schmidt No, it has nothing to do with the accent (which, by the way, is not acadian), it has to do with his natural contempt for every «stranger». Although I do not feel much respect for our PM who is disrespectful by lying about environment issues (see pipeline in BC), democracy, french language in Canada, denial of the existence of a nation in Quebec.

ÀlaQuébécoise Well, I live in France and the french are not the most polite people in the world, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were laughing at Trudeau's accent. I agree that Trudeau is an impostor, he wants people to think he's the most progressive leader out there, but then destroys the environment in BC and is afraid of Quebec as a nation, not very coherent to say the least.

@@MaestroSangurasu He was born in Ottawa. He moved to Montreal in 1984 when he was 13. In Ottawa he went to French-immersion school. His French is good but his English is better.

That said, this is a significant speech, both because it is a signal honour for Canada and because it presents a strong statement of ideals and ideas which fairly represents what Canada stands for.

Dommage que Trudeau ait un nom Français si je comprends bien!!! Mais finalement je me demande depuis quand les français sont détestés par les Canadiens..? je pensais que ct parce qu'il y a des cons en France, comme partout car je suis fan du Canada et des Canadiens et je sais que je suis loin d'être la seule! mais finalement cela remonte quand même pas mal à ces guerres de territoire et ce qu'on nous raconte à propos de ce qu'auraient fait les Français aux indiens, oui je veux bien le croire mais qu'ont fait les Anglais les Irlandais et tous ceux qui ont crée le Canada? Mais bon sang vous savez bien que l'humain , quelque soit sa nationalité et ses erreurs passées est le même partout!! tant que les peuples ne se mettront pas ça en tête ce sera toujours la grande pagaille!! ce que l'on est en train de faire partout encore maintenant c'est "L'AMALGAME c'est à dire mettre tout le monde dans le même sac sous prétexte qu'il a telle ou telle religion, telle ou telle nationalité! Il y a des BONS et des MECHANTS partout!! Il y a des CONS aussi mais qui ne sont pas forcément méchants et il y a des CONS méchamment MECHANTS partout pas seulement en France!! je m'insurge contre ça car j'aime les Canadiens et le Canada et jamais je ne leur porterai préjudice et je sais qu'il y a un nombre incalculable de Français comme moi!! Et je ne juge pas les peuples de pays que je ne connais pas car comme moi ils ont leur lot d'emmerdes et de difficultés a se battre contre les difficultés de la vie!! Les dirigeant de pays sont comme des parents avec leurs enfants j'ose croire qu'ils essaient de faire pour le mieux dans leur pays et que comme des parents se plantent bien souvent en fonction du caractère de leur enfant!! Evidemment il y a la corruption mais toujours pareil dans n'importe quel pays c'est comme ça et encore une fois on ne changera pas l'humain c'est malheureusement le hic de tout peuple!! il faudra toujours combattre ça et je pense que c'est déjà pas mal sans s'en rajouter sans compter les guerres technologiques que nous subissons tous enfin bref il y a tant et tant à dire que je trouves qu'il faut en oublier!!!
